Basic stuff, admittedly not too much. I went through a few GY!BE albums (which I liked a lot,) The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place (listened through that 4 times or so and it still remains a blur to me,) A Mt. Silver Zion's He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms… (though in defense I have only heard it once,) and Takk (which I enjoyed to some extent.) Not to say I don't enjoy post-rock, but what I have heard so far has not "wowed" me (besides GY!BE [and Explosions in the Sky on first listen but I got over that.])

I'm willing to explore more into the genre, though, because there are certain points in each of the previously mentioned albums that left me in awe and struck an emotion in me.

Sounds cool, picking it up right now.

I'm a few days behind unfortunately, the few people that have some of this stuff on slsk refuse to log on...
Despite all my rage, I'm still just Nicolas Cage

Listen to Talk Talk's last three albums, in order. That'll change your mind about post-rock fo sho. Nothing but emotion in those albums, I think. Granted, The Colour of Spring isn't post-rock, but you should still hear it first, I think.

And that'll do for my threadjack/fanboyism for now.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

yeah, post-rock is a pretty damn varied genre despite the best efforts of many copycats that have popped up over the past decade.

also, i'll try and update the OP every week or so for folks who might not be able to follow the thread or just want to hit up stuff they've missed.
i appreciate folks trying to generate at least a little conversation/interest in this stuff...

Maybeshewill - Not For Want of Trying
    Mono - You Are There
Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss
    Mogwai - Young Team
The Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl Volumes 1 & 2
    You Slut! - Critical Meat

and heck, even check out Jesu's Conqueror if you haven't yet

Maybeshewill is pretty accessible, and while Yndi Halda is amazing, they're not very accessible.

For a Post-Rock newbie, I definitely suggest that Maybeshewill album, it has some standout tracks.

Locomotive - We Are Everything You See
    Genre: Progressive/Psychedelic Rock
    Year: 1970

Awesome prog band with psychedelic, classical, and jazz-fusion tendencies. Melodic, varied, and ahead of it's time...
I'm sick of doing these bad reviews.

Recommended If You Like: Van Der Graaf Generator, Traffic, Procol Harum, Caravan, and The Moody Blues.

Visit their myspace page for samples.

Locomotive is definitely something I would recommend to people who love the bands you mentioned, nice pick. I prefer S.B.B. when it comes to obscure prog rock though!
