This is one of the most fun avant-prog albums I've ever heard, mostly because it's so full of attitude in a way that the genre rarely sees without Zappa at the helm.
To boot, these songs are ridiculously catchy and rich in ideas, tonality, and mood. And they're Belgian!

Recommended If You Like: Frank Zappa, Henry Cow, Magma, Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, and Flat Earth Society.

Only sample I can find, which is a shame since one song can't do this album justice, particularly this track.
This album is awesome. Any chance we'll see more like this in the thread?

The Tony Williams Lifetime - Emergency!
    Genre: Jazz Fusion
    Year: 1969

I don't care if the sparingly used vocals are messy, this is one of the best jazz fusion albums I've ever heard.
Straight-up all-stars getting raw and psychedelic in here!

Recommended If You Like: Miles Davis, Billy Cobham, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Bill Bruford, and Max Roach.

Whoa, surprising to see something this fairly popular in here, but its awesomeness definitely does warrant a mention.

    The Last - L.A. Explosion!
    Genre: Powerpop/Garage Rock
    Year: 1979

This album should be regarded as a pop classic with it's effortless blend of folk-rock, surf rock, and punk all in the name of catchy melodies packed into two and a half minute songs.

Recommended If You Like: The Knack, Flamin' Groovies, The Soft Boys, Redd Kross, Shoes, and The Barracudas.

    Sample via myspace.
