Serpentina Satelite was pure joy. Pretty interesting EP in that half of it is basically shredding psych rock (like the beast "Kommune") while the other half goes into the more space rock, ethereal side of things ("Nueva Ola"....which was REALLY good).

stasis, I see they put out a new album this year. how is it?

About the Christmas thing, I think you might as well skip a day or two for a Christmas break.

    Soul-Junk - 1955
    Genre: Abstract Hip-Hop/Alternative Rock
    Year: 1998

Oh god, just seeing those two genres side by side even makes me cringe and I already know that I enjoy the album.
Anyhow, Soul-Junk is a dude from avant-rock band Trumans Water and 1955 is his two and a half hour offering. Of course with that length it's not flawless (Most of the instrumentals are pretty dull), but there's some great stuff to be found here if you're in the right mood and can deal with bizarre Christian-themed lyrics.

Recommended If You Like: Busdriver meets Pavement as curated by Thinking Fellers Union and Danielson Famile.

    Machinist - Self Titled
    Genre: Noisecore/Mathcore
    Year: 2007

This band released 11 and a half minutes worth of absolute insanity and embarrassed 99% of their peers before calling it quits.

Recommended If You Like: The Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch, Gaza, Deadguy, Ed Gein, and Breather Resist.

Sorry, I can find no samples online.

EDIT: Keep in mind that megaupload links take about 24 hours to become active, which was probably the issue with Nothing To Say the other day. It should be fine now.

They look a bit naked without album covers, but I just updated the blog. RYM's images seem to be down for the moment, so I'll fix 'em later.

    Eleven Pond - Bas Relief
    Genre: Minimal Wave/New Wave
    Year: 1986

Cold synths, cold drum machines, cold vocals... When the guitars show up they're cold and muted too.
It looks like this finally got a reissue last year. I haven't heard it yet, but the original is fantastic.

    Rank And File - Sundown
    Genre: Roots Rock/Alt-Country
    Year: 1982

Sundown plays like 70's punk record of it's time except with a chugging rhythm section, jangly guitars, and harmonized vocals.
If you remember the Nuns album I posted a while back you'll find these two bands share guitarists in addition to featuring two former members of The Dils.

Recommended If You Like: X's most roots-y songs with an extra helping of Gram Parsons.

Sample the first two songs on youtube.

I have some catching up to do, but I adored the Fuehler, Scatter, and Time of Orchids albums.
