Ob-la-di Ob-la-da life goes on.
Well... Because of You guys in Harmonix I, without NO musical backround, am studying real instruments today. Playing RB1 I noticed (remarkably) drumming and singing felt "easy" for me, at least compareing to my friends. So I bought Ions premiums, then Rolands electric drums... and I can play. What a joy!
Last April i bought a classical nylon guitar (Epiphone "John Lennon" Casino, Vox amp naturally, and Yamaha FG-720S are allready added to basket) and once a week I take private guitar lessons in music school. And o`boy, I`m learning fast. What a JOY! Lack of further Beatles DLC does not depress me so much, because I bought The Beatles Black Songbook and play the whole cataloque whenever I like. So, thank You Harmonix. I owe you MUCH!
By the way... it`s never too late to start learning new things. I`m 42 years old this Halloween.
So, I guess I`ve changed alot. Luckily my fingers have lasted decades of martial arts, lifting weights, wrestling with "bad guys" and other bone breaking stuff. Now I`ve got all the time in the world to explore the music in me. Music, that i never even knew i had.
wow huge bumping of Garage's thread.
That's cool, I hope you enjoy music. You should learn to read drum music if you enjoy drums enough. Also, I would suggest you eventually get The Beatles Complete Scores. It has transcriptions for every instrument on every Beatles song (I can't think of another book that has guitar and drums).
If you have to ask, then yes.
Guitar is my "main instrument" (hah, sounds funny only after 6 months of training). It takes my all spare time these days.
About drum sheets, I learned to read them quite easily. So could anybody. They are easier and much logical , than people might think.
Couple of adjustments to my my previous post; playing RB1 just gave me a sligh scent I could really play real instruments, at least drums, compared to my friends who had massive difficulties (givind us all unforgettable laughs) playing everything else, but music.
So came TB:RB and I had to have it all being such a fan of the Fab Four. Three mics, Ion premium drum set with extra cymbals. But nothing`s enough when you really into something... Roland drumset in the corner of my "home studio" is just one proof of it. I played Rolands with headphones-PC-CD/MP3-combination, and it was, and still sometimes is fun and instructive.
But then came guitar, wich have aways hounted in a back of my head. Considering my age (41), work and rest of the family responsibilityes, I had to get straight to the source of knowledge. I had no time to be a self made guitarist, so I contacted local private music school to get private lessons and do the right things straight from the beginning.
It`s like starting to go to gym all by your self, not knowing what to do and when. After a few years, and broken joints and back you finally can do some progress. So, I want to avoid these "injuries" in my musical training, and get myself a professional "personal trainer", who knows and guides me the best possible way suitable for me.
About those books You mentioned about;
First I got myself The Beatles Complete: Easy Guitar Edition , wich I can`t recommend to anybody. Keys and chords are just wrong.
Then Came The Little Black Songbook; The Beatles wich was a pleasant surprise. Not too hard for beginner. Just lyrics and chords (and chordboxes to show real fingering), compatible size to carry anywhere, and most suprisingly all; you can play same time you listen the original recording. Addictive as hell... So, I did not hesitate when it also came to Appstore, and now i got it always with me in my phone.
The Beatles Complete Scores You recommended was my next purchase. Real Beatles "Bibble", if You don`t mind comparison. A little bit too technical for me yet (damn sheets!), but i`ll get there. I allready play by chords and tabs(including the book) , but in a year or two I play sheets. That`s a promise.
Maybe there should be thread of it`s own for "musicians" inspired by Harmonix? It would be fun to discuss fellow beginners (and cry their shoulders when fingers get so spastic, heh)?
EDIT: I absolutely recommend you all Best Of LENNON & McCARTNEY For Acoustic Guitar DVD. Andrew DuBrock teaches step by step such Beatles classics like Blacbird, Dear Prudence, Julia, Yesterday, Norwigian Wood. First when i took a hint of that fingerwork, I thought "newer gonna happen", but now I`ve learned fingering and some songs are even recognisable.![]()
