Finishing up Supernatural season 5 tonight. Fantastic season of a really fun show, loved their spin on all the concepts from Christian mythology and the not-so-subtle nods to Neil Gaiman's writing. That and their soundtrack and especially their casting choices are absolutely amazing.

I just finished the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I really dug it a lot, took me a couple of episodes to warm up to it but it just gets better and better as it goes along. Basically cross the HBO series Rome with 300 and that's the show. The battle scenes are done in the same stylized fashion as 300 but done on a TV budget, so they look a little fake sometimes. Occasionally dodgy visual FX aside, an excellent show, with tons of sex and violence.

    Agreed,

The 5th season was fantastic, but lacked some of the anxiety of previous seasons. I say this because you knew that the boys couldn't die. Dean died? Angels resurrect. Sam dies? Lucifer resurrects. It was an unfortunate side effect of the story they were persuing.

That being said, I would have been incredibly happy with the show if it had finished it's run after that season, as it would've ended on an incredibly high note.

I have my fears for season 6 personally, as the things I've read about what they're going to do seem like they're going to be pretty cliched and hard to believe. But, I've gotta have some faith, as the writers have never failed to impress me yet.

Keep in mind that I've yet to see the finale, but I thought the 'main characters can't die', which is pretty much a given in almost any TV show anyway, was nicely offset by the fact that just about every secondary character was fair game (except for Castiel and Bobby, but nobody wants to see the two best regular characters on the show die anyway).

I kind of regret that they killed off Gabriel though, those episodes were always incredibly fun.

We'll have to see how the show'll do without Kripke. I hope he gets his adaptation of Sandman off the ground, though. As a writer, he truly seems to get those kind of themes (the Hammer of the Gods episode was a great example) and as a producer he seems willing enough to put his foot down to prevent major changes by the network.

You MAY be surprised by the ending then

I do agree with you that it was great that every secondary character was fair game, and that did add a lot of anxiety (There were a few "They can't do that!" moments).

I also agree that it was a real shame that they killed off that guy, as he was easily the best secondary character the show ever had. Every one of those Episodes is one of my favourites (JUST ahead of the Ghost Facers)

Now watching the season premiere of The Apprentice. One of those shows I feel it's a necessity if I want to get wise in this business world I'm soon going to be working in.
