What were the last TV shows you watched?

Legend of the Seeker. It's really not that good, but it's my current guilty pleasure. I watch it mostly for the eye candy. The fact that the show offends fans of the author of the books on which the show is based is an added bonus.

The first season started slow, then got better (but never great) as it went on. The second season was a train wreck from the start. I quit after four episodes. Just not funny at all. I don't know who in Hollywood thinks Megan Mullaly is funny, but whoever it is needs to be blacklisted from casting a comedy ever again.

Granted, I'd rank the first season as pretty easily great, so obviously there's gonna be opinion dissonance here, but the back half of the second season of Party Down was vastly superior to the front half. They figured out how to use Megan Mullally for maximum humor. She's no Jane Lynch, sure, but on the other hand, she's no Jennifer Coolidge, either. God, her two episodes were like pulling teeth.

EDIT: Holy crap I just found this trailer for a show starting later this year called Awake. I'd never heard of it but man it looks like it could be awesome. Just check out the trailer.

While I wasn't really a fan of Mullaly's character in the show, I wasn't nearly as aggravated by her as you seem to be. I thought the rest of the cast (especially Lizzy Caplan) more than made up for her. As for the greatness of the show, we'll just have to agree to disagree because I thought it was great from start to finish. Also, if you stopped four episodes into the second season, you missed out on the episode that most fans and the cast of the show agree is the best of the series (episode 5 of season 2 with guest star Steve Guttenberg).

The last show I watched was Parks and Recreation. I've watched the show here and there since it started but I've never seen all the episodes and never straight through until now. It's now officially one of my favorites on tv and another show with an amazingly quirky girl for me to crush on (Aubrey Plaza).

Pretty much that. Mullally was pretty much the reason I turned Will & Grace off after the first ten minutes to never bother with it again. But Party Down kinda filtered her abrasive f** hag timbre into a shy optimistic hokeyness that made her character a pretty convincing mother, which rendered her a great reaction canvas to all the crazy LA s*** they encountered. And like you said, she was never a load-bearing beam. You had Caplan, Scott and Marino, who each filled their roles out perfectly, plus Kyle and Roman were one of the best anti-buddy friendships I've ever seen on TV.

The Guttenberg episode was probably the show's highlight, plus it kicked off a streak of brilliant episodes that didn't stop until the series finale. The one with Paul Scheer as Roman's old writing partner? Good Lord, Constance's wedding? Guttenberg was probably the best episode, but I think the draft party was the one I laughed the hardest at. Lizzy's last line before the credits was just a cherry on top of a hilarity sundae. Reminded me of the way Arrested Development would pull all their subplots together for a big chaotic ending.

In all seriousness, shame on me for not thinking to bring up P&R. I really can't name a show that's currently operating at peak performance the way it is. SPOILER-ISH (unless you're at least partway through season 3): The Andy/April relationship is probably one of the better TV pairs I've seen, just because they were two characters brought onto the show for very different reasons, but the writers were smart, noticed chemistry and the way the characters were developing independently of their scripts, and they embraced it rather than trying to write against the grain of the characters. Hell, I don't know if Andy was supposed to be a permanent character or not, Chris Pratt was billed as a guest star for the first season. The premise seemed to suggest he was just the loser boyfriend that Ann had to dump (the Roy/Lee to her Pam/Dawn, if you will), but he pretty much instantly became my (and apparently a lot of other folks') favorite part of the show.

That was just a happy accident, actually. And I completely agree about Andy and April on P&R. In season one Andy was a bore in the background but he's definitely one of my favorite characters now.

I pretty much agree with you guys on Parks & Rec. It started off as an Office-like comedy to its own, great show in the course of a season and has become a major highlight for me. Ron is the best.

Justin Timberlake absolutely destroyed his opening monologue on SNL last night. I may not be a fan of his stuff, but damn he did a great job.

I've been doing a re-watch of Eureka (its on Netflix Instant for anyone interested). I'm in the second season now, just watched the first one with Zane when the whole town becomes stupid. I hate Nathan Stark!
