How does the Death Note anime compare to the live action movies? I've only seen the movies, and not the anime.

From what I've heard, the movies are a tad... kitsch. But then fans of the manga say the same about the show.
I haven't seen the films, but it seems to me difficult to cram all of it into one film. (Also heard the ending was a tad f***ed with.)

To me, Death Note was a perfect anime on its own. Well thought out plot, interesting protagonist who truly becomes warped in his views and the quirks of the rest of cast helped lighten the mood (L's sweet addiction, Mellow's chocolate, and Near with his toys.) Death Note also didn't drag on forever, 37(?) episodes and it was over. A series that can easily be finished but still holds onto you with the different plot twists and battle of wits between Kira and L.
I enjoyed it for what it was.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (duh!)
My thoughts so far on the new Curb season: subpar. Larry could do so much better. The situations he gets himself into are getting more and more outrageous and unbelievable (the previous season was much, much better in this regard and therefore, was much more enjoyable than this season). Leon remains as the best recurring actor on the show, you have absolutely no idea what he is going to say and how he is going to say it. His complete randomness makes you just burst out in laughter. Unfortunately, the only episode so far that Leon was in is the only episode this season I really enjoyed, but the preview for next weeks episode has Leon! So I have to remember to tune in next Sunday which is getting harder and harder to do. The show just lost it's appeal. If Larry decides to do a 9th season, I'll be very hesitant before checking it out.

I'm currently watching season one of Community. I'm really enjoying this show. It edges on being a bit too sappy at times, but makes up for it by having a fantastic cast and a lot of clever and often very absurd jokes, which I really like. The lack of a laugh track is also highly appreciated.
game of thrones. this is some pretty good ****. i've watched 8 episodes in the last few days and am gettin closer to the finale. not something that im looking forward to as this has been better than i thought. i have not read the books but am seriously considering it.
am nearly finished with boardwalk empire as well. after a slowish start to the series it has been getting better with each episode. can't wait for the new season.

Since I still haven't found a good apartment, I'm still crashing at my aunt's. Turns out she's really into The Closer, which I'd heard a lot about but never seen until now. It's definitely well-above-average TV, some great performances (mainly Sedgwick and Simmons), but for all the praise it's gotten I was expecting more than another case-a-week cop show featuring an assertive lead who does things her/his own way but get away with it 'cause they get results.
But then, I love Burn Notice, so who am I to gripe about formula?
I like Community a good deal. But I love Donald Glover and Joel McHale, so I have to wonder what it is that leaves me slightly more lukewarm on it than I feel like I should be. The fact they use Danny Pudi's character to hang lampshades all over the damn place does wear its welcome out fairly fast.
The great episodes come from a good balancing act of the light-hearted comedy, the character drama (not too much; as you've said, it goes to saptown in a hurry) and genre deconstruction.
But the f***ing fantastic episodes come from balls outta left field. (See Modern Warfare, near the end of the first season, and the second season's Halloween episode.)

Currently watching episode 29 of Death Note. Dang, this new Shinigami is annoying.
