just completed the Frozen Planet (essentially a sequel to the Planet Earth series) documentaries....really amazing stuff. Particularly liked the episode on human settlements in the polar regions.

Burned through Game of Thrones like I should have a long time ago. I could deal without a lot of the sexposition (not that I have any particular problem with it, it just seemed gratuitous most of the time--and it was pretty funny watching Littlefinger going on about how much he loved Kat, and then switching gears and giving Ros instructions on what to do with the other woman), but the world itself and the characters were enough to pull me in. S2 is gonna be awesome--Arya and Danerys are some of the awesomest female characters on screen right now.

For those people looking for shows to binge on, the old standbys are Friday Night Lights and The Wire. Even if you don't like American football (I assure you I don't, my little brother who introduced me to the show doesn't, my mother doesn't, and all my Afro-European friends who were raised on soccer don't care for it, and all of them ate it up), give FNL a shot. The Taylors are one of the best couples on television, and the show does such a good job of creating a town--think of the worldbuilding done with Pawnee, and you get the idea--that every time you start up an episode it feels like home.

As for The Wire...it's The Wire. If you don't already know it, it's unlike any television show you've seen, and probably best experienced a season at a time. It demands your attention (partly because it's heavy on vernacular and slang, partly because sometimes it relies exclusively on visual language; one investigative scene early on manages to have two detectives break a cold case using only the F word as dialogue, while another one further down the line is done with no words at all), so avoid doing laundry/cooking dinner/having sex while watching.

I just got wind of this when my sister brought the box set with her when she visited for the holidays. We watched half of it on Christmas Eve and the rest the day after Christmas. Fantastic show.

House of Lies has yet to really impress me, but it entertains enough; but the raunchy shtick is much more well done in Californication or at least I feel like it is. To note that is another one I am watching as well. Outside of that I'm rewatching Quantum Leap and The A Team through hulu+ and am patiently waiting for The Big C and Episodes new seasons to pop up.

House of Lies is one of those shows where it has everything in the world to succeed but it hasn't done anything with it yet. Ben Schwartz's "Clyde" character is maybe a little too smarmy and not cartoonish enough to make him as appealing as Jean-Ralphio. The acting ensemble has good chemistry, but with so little to work with at the moment (the scripts are kind of just...there) I'm just waiting to see if it gels eventually.

On the other hand, there was that one scene with Kristen Bell dancing in lingerie.

At least Justified is back on the air.

I plan on going through all 23 seasons of The Simpsons. My friend has all of them on his HDD that he let me borrow.

I should be finished in about 2 years.
