You go back and watch earlier episodes and it really becomes apparent the extent that Glover's elevated the character in depth and evolved him in tone. I'm really hoping we haven't seen the last of the rift between Troy and Abed. Not that I'm rooting against the most bromantic TV friendship ever, it's just that the conflict was just rooted in some very real issues between the two of them that came up very organically, and I feel like rather than resolve them, Jeff just kinda gave Troy permission to hit the snooze alarm on dealing with them.
Some of Glover's funniest moments have been when he's as detached from reality as Abed (especially when he and Danny Pudi get to show off their fantastic bro-chemistry), but some of his finest moments have been when he proves himself to be very much secretly grounded in reality (as with the Britta reveal), especially when you see the strain of his closest human connection being borderline escapism from reality (I've heard someone point out that his being pressured into plumbing and AC repair, neither of which he particularly want to do, is probably driving his dependence on Abed. It's incredibly brutal stuff for a comedic duo so silly.)
