I have the first season DVD set. Have had it for about a year, still haven't gotten around to watching it.

Well I highly recommend it. Especially if you already own it

Yes that does make the decision easy I have so many other toys, though, and constant Netflix DVD's, that it keeps getting pushed to the back burner. I actually bought it mainly because it's a piece of Hayley McFarland's filmography (luv her...just luv her!). Yeah, I heard it was good, too, and I think her role is a small one anyway.

So yeah. One of these years

One episode short of finishing Downton Abbey. That show is gorgeously shot and fantastically acted, and most of the time that you want to slap characters is because of the inherent nature of the character and not some plot-induced stupidity.

I popped the DVD in last night and....I don't know. I've got certain problems with it. No doubt the title role(s) is(/are) well-acted, but I just don't like the seemingly pervasive message that the way to deal with mental health problems is to NOT take your prescribed medication. How would that work with physical health problems? Not very damn well at all, that's how. I'm sure the show will come to some glorious resolution where Tara rises from the ashes and no longer needs the alters (and this is to say nothing of whether the show even depicts DID in a realistic way...I honestly don't know if it does but I tend to doubt it), but it doesn't work that way in real life. There's no stories out there about someone triumphing over diabetes or high blood pressure because of the strength of the human spirit.

    So like I say, I don't know.

Well they explain that the drugs she was taking made her miserable and zombie-like so her family agreed to support her decision to stop taking them.

I doubt they are depicting DID in a realistic way but it's TV. The Office doesn't depict working in an office in a realistic way, Scrubs didn't depict being a doctor in a realistic way, etc. It's all dramatized

Yeah but people don't go in thinking comedies will be realistic. Dramas, especially dramas on cable channels (and Y U NO SUBTITLES, Showtime DVD's?) have different expectations, I think.

I think you slightly missed my point -- if the drugs are making her miserable and zombie-like, then the choice is between "miserable and zombie-like" and "stuck in your original condition forever." Not getting better some other way. These things don't just go away. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but it seems likely that that's how the story will resolve itself in the end. Goodness knows I've seen it in other stories.

Well I don't want to spoil it for you but... she does go back on the mess in the second season and finds a mixture that works for her.

It is a comedy though. Well the same way Weeds is. There is a fair share of drama but it's labeled as a comedy.

Really? I mean, I found a couple of things to giggle about ("I will **** you sideways!") but that's not what the overall tone seemed to me. Hunh.

Been watching Mankind on History...Should be renamed "ManUnkind" as they are really showing what history books did not show in HS.
