Is that an earlier episode where Mike and Sam basically put that together in the span of a couple of hours? Where they were also "killed" in front of that guy or is it a different episode altogether?

Yep, that's the one. I couldn't remember where in the series that was. You don't see "Devil" Michael again, but there is a subtle reference in a later episode.

P4: The Animation - #12 It's Not Empty At All

(I feel like giving a synopsis this time since the altered scenes were done really well.)

Started off pretty good entering the retro game dungeon, but the website where I watched it must have had a skip or something. Mitsuo's shadow started to awaken and then there was a nonsequitur cut to the group back at the meeting place and the fight was over. With the killer caught, the show took a rather depressing turn...

Narukami (the nameless, silent protagonist you play in the game) started feeling like the bond the group all shared was only because of the case and their Personas. With the case solved and no further use of their Personas, the group slowly began to drift apart. Months pass and Narukami becomes more and more distant from every member of the team.

Alone in his room, Narukami is confronted by a Shadow proclaiming that he never had any friends. Narukami tries to defend himself with his Persona, but the tarot card turns up blank. He keeps trying, but all his attempts are met with more empty cards, essentially confirming the Shadow is right about his so called "bonds."

    "You're empty, just like me..."

The Shadow grabs him by the neck and Narukami begins to lose consciousness, until he hears a voice calling his name and shouting, "Give me your hand!" With his last bit of strength, he reaches for the voice and is lifted out of Shadow Mitsuo.

(Narukami being trapped by Shadow Mitsuo must have been part of the scene that was cut, as I had no idea what was happening.)

The fight from months ago is still on; Narukami was hypnotized into believing his friends had abandoned him after the murder case was solved. His friends welcome him back into the fray with open concern about him being trapped, proving the Shadow from the illusion is wrong and how they truly care about him. The rest of the team's Personas create an opening in Shadow Mitsuo's defenses, leaving the final push to Narukami.

    "I... am not empty!"

With this resolve, Narukami begins summoning each of his Personas from all the bonds he has formed, one after another for the final assault. The rest of the crew is shocked by how many he can summon as he pretty much shoots out a new one about every 5-10 seconds during the whole 1 minute 20 second scene.

With Shadow Mitsuo defeated, the real Mitsuo, the self-proclaimed killer, is apprehended by police and the case comes to a close. With what seems to be a relapse of the events from before, the group discusses what they will do next. They all agree to keep meeting up and hang out with each other, proving their friendship isn't tied together by a murderer on the loose or their special ability.

The credits always end on the same phrase: "Bonds of people is the true power." I would say that phrase rang true the entire episode and would have made it a great season finale. I know the series isn't over either, there are still another 14 episodes left.

Final thoughts: If you skipped all of the above, at least read what's below.

I think...this episode is exactly what I needed to see right now. Back when I first wrote "Worth," the only way I didn't feel alone was to save depressing quotes and images, since the people who made them were the only ones with whom I could feel a connection. Throughout the day I may have seemed alright, but come nightfall, I tended to break down and write more depressing things.

The hypnosis section never happened in the game, so to see that as something new from one of my favorite series, along with how I've been feeling the past two months really started to break down the walls I'd been forming between myself and others. I won't say I'm completely healed, but I don't plan on filling the holes this episode shot into my negative thinking.

I've been watching Nikita while I wait for S4 of Breaking Bad and S5 of Burn Notice to go streaming on Netflix. Not too bad.

And will finish Season 4 later on tonight (well, technically tomorrow morning). And then watch The Fall of Sam Axe on Friday. Then probably start Season 5 on Monday.

FOX absolutely sucks for it. Lie To Me was cancelled too quickly, same with The Chicago Code and Human Target. Next show to go I'm sure will be House, because it's on a downfall. I'm not really liking the new season.
