For example, a friend of mine likes like 75% of what I listen to, minus most heavier metal and anything that's quite separated from mainstream music. But he also listens to a lot of rap and country, two genres that will (mostly) never touch my ipod.
He's just got a larger taste for music.
If you hate cake but love pie, and someone you know loves both, would you stop eating pie?
Listen to music that you enjoy listening to.
Argh, I would be content with 60 right about now. I'm gonna have so much stuff I want to buy after I get more points.
Selfishly, I'd rather be listening to a good Finger Eleven album and looking forward to another, than hear Paralyzer in whatever sports bar I'm in, and know some real pandering, mediocre stuff is forthcoming.
Funny, the guy mentioning Rise Against. As a fan of their newer stuff, I guess I now know what it feels like to be on the other side of the argument.

Folks who like stuff that's obscure often like it because it doesn't sound mainstream. If that band ever does something that is mainstream and successful, and the band's sound follows that, they get upset because the sound isn't the sound they liked and they "sold out" (rather than accept that the band may have wanted to change musical directions anyway, bands do that). Metalica underwent this around their Black Album years.
Then again, there are also people who like stuff because it's cool to like obscure stuff, and once it becomes mainstream, their like won't be as cool.
There's also a general dislike of other's success. It's why some bands have some pretty big haters despite the bands being successful (Nickleback comes to mind here on the forums, lot of hate for them despite them being successful. I don't think I've heard much of them myself).
Me, the only thing that's driven me to hate music I might have otherwise liked is having it be overplayed by someone else and forced on me. Since I rarely listen to modern music outside of TV and Rock Band, this rarely happens.

Hey Noble. Instead of having each individual song with the color code. Why don't you just bunch them up into one (like in each section you have in the OP)? It would cut down on characters used (I believe anyways) so you could essentially fit more in the OP.
