TRUE BLUE
Except that regular RB DLC has already proven that length has NOTHING to do with it ("Thank You Boys" costs just as much as "The Who S-mashup").
So by that argument, what does the consumer get for that extra $1 between a $1 and a $2 song?
Nothing.
So then I guess all songs should just be $1. But then of course, there's also those free songs....

Tiger Uppercut: Platinum Artist | Expert: G/B | Hard: D/V

The only time I'd download a RB song for $3 is if it's a REALLY good song. Unfortunately, Atomic isn't that kind of song (I like the song, but it's not worth spending $3 in my opinion), so it'll be a pass until/unless the price drops.
HMX chooses not to price by length, that doesn't mean the length vs. cost argument isn't there.
I know "Thank You Boys" was part of a pack, but let's just say you chose to buy it on its own. Two bucks for a one-minute song. You're paying $1 for 30 seconds of gameplay. "The Who S-mashup" is what, 8 minutes? So, you're paying $1 for two minutes of gameplay.
Unless they absolutely hated The Who and loved Jane's Addiction, I think most people would consider The Who song a better value.
This is something artists can keep in mind when pricing their songs, and when songs at $3, they can appeal to me if the track is longer and a better perceived value (to me). That may not spell value to you, and that's fine.
Obviously factors like chart quality, challenge, and hell, whether or not I like the damn thing, also matter.

Aside from the opening post, and Thybrid's stuff, most of this has been pretty civil (I read until Magnet's post).
It's rather unfortunate that a song has broken the previously unheard of 3 dollar pricing so soon in the Rock Band Network cycle. Blondie is a pretty good artists, catchy 80's pop-rock gold, but I do think that three dollars is pushing it. I will not be purchasing this one, and in the interest of trying to keep the prices low, I'd advise other users to say no to the price.
They are free to charge what they want, but I'm certain if not many people go for it, they will reduce the price to something more feasible.
The Torch Is Lit!
I pretty much echo what HMXHenry eloquently stated. If I enjoy the song and feel it's worth it, I'll gladly shell out $3. However, I don't plan on paying $3 for every song I enjoy that comes out.
I suppose my plan for RBN is:
$3 - I'll purchase if it's a great tune, being more selective
$2 - I'll purchase if it's a good tune, being slightly selective
$1 - I'll purchase if it's a decent tune, essentially "impulse buying"
If a great song is less than $3, then it's my lucky day. However, I realize how much time and effort is spent creating these tracks to get into Rock Band, so I don't mind shelling out an extra $1 or $2 for something that I'll truly enjoy over and over again.
Concerning this specific track: I'm not a huge Blondie fan, so I didn't plan on purchasing Atomic at all. I might have thought on it if it was $1, but at $3 it's not even a consideration. However, if they added some Within Temptation, I'd gladly pay $3/song for those tracks.
