    Nice avatar btw
But the song wasn't readily available on the marketplace either, was it? People are just using unpublished links to get to the content, which is really at their own risk.

I don't know if links found on this site's DLC section is really "unpublished".

Every song there has a link to the marketplace. I trust the links. Now, some songs have not been listed there, so those would be buy at your own risk imo.

This thread was started in reference to Blondie's "Atomic" which has never been on that list. While purchasing a song from the store or from the marketplace is technically the same type of purchase, if you purchase a song through the marketplace that is NOT in the in-game store or the list here on the site, you run the risk of buying a song that could be taken down before it ever shows up in the store.

Both of the infamous $3 songs were taken down on the Creators site and put back into the review pipeline again (as far as we know, the only change was to add their name in the "Label" section). There must be some kind of glitch that's caused them to stay up on the marketplace despite being taken down on the Creators site.

When a song is "taken down", I don't think it gets delisted (since people who bought it would then be unable to redownload it).

This is why HMX encourages people to only buy songs that are linked officially and not just digging through hex code.

It's also why HMX encourages authors to not submit a song until they are certain it's ready to go...because if it has to be relisted on the XNA/RBN...it has to be an entirely new offer (and those has to be bought a second time).

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I just realized that I made a mistake by purchasing atomic from XBL with a direct link from DLCQP where is listed:

    Atomic Blondie Pop-Rock 240 - Demo 32 3/09/10

shows that 32 registered users bought it, but the real number is much higher

Personally, this is exactly why I never buy a song before it hits the official marketplace. I don't want to have to buy a song again just because they had to fix a bug (and yes, I'm obsessive enough to do just that). Although, it does result in some annoyance as I'm kicking myself for not purchasing Revengers (Ron Wasserman) and Footloose and Fancy Free (Bill Bruford's Earthworks) when I had the chance. Still, as the old adage goes, better safe than sorry.
