Would you be willing to pay $3 for the right song?

First off, yes, this is different than LuigiHann's poll. And second, no, I'm not going to start charging $3 for my songs.

Now that that's out of the way, the question stands: Would you be willing to pay $3 for the right song? And if so, what exactly makes that specific song the "right song" that you would be willing to pay $3 for it?

I'll start! Yes, I would. And the song is - Dream Theater, "Metropolis pt. 1". Partly because it's 9:30 in length, but mostly because it's the first song of theirs I ever heard, and the one that made me a DT fan.

The right song for me spans about 50+ songs, but they are specific songs(not artists), by specific artists(no cover versions)

one of them is Smooth Criminal by MJ, as much as the AAF version is nice, it just has nothing on the original, which is why i mention the covers

    a few others would include

    Thriller-MJ
    Twlight zone-Golden Earring
    DLC I want
    Golden Earring
    Michael Jackson
    Paramore
"More" Miley Cyrus, you can never have enough
    Lemon Demon
    Queen-Princes of the Universe

I would say length has alot to do with it. It doesn't even have to be 10 minutes imo, just not 2-4 either.

Incubus - Sick Sad Little World is a good example of what I would spend $3. It has little to do with who the artist it. It has alot more to do with how epic the song is to me and how much content I am getting for my extra dollar.

That said one of my favorite songs right now is Chevelle - Jars and I most definitely would not pay $3 for it.

There are certain Muse songs I would get for $3 and some of the longer Underoath songs from Define the Great Line.

i could name off MANY songs i'd pay $3 for, though i wouldn't be able to afford it if they were all released (not to mention how stacked that would leave my collection).

one easy rule is that if ian curtis, andrew wk, or john darnielle are present then my wallet is open.

There's a few songs I'd pay $3 for but they're all songs I doubt would ever come to RB, either through DLC or RBN...

Sister's Of Mercy - Temple Of Love or Dominion/Mother Russia.
Both are incredibly long, and a major part of my musical childhood.
    Shpongle - Outer Shpongolia/Levitaion Nation
Not too long, but would be fun on almost everything except vocals, and that could be done in a really fun way.... Although one to destroy the vocalists - Ineffable Mysteries...

Given enough time I'll think of more - but those were the first ones that came to mind...
I used to have many songs... but then I had to stop buying more...

I would be willing to play $3 for a song that is a personal favorite, regardless of length, with one caveat: that it is not "likely" to be eventually released by HMX as normal DLC.

While HMX does often catch me off-guard with their offerings, they do in general lean towards certain names. To that end, there are a number of bands that I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see in Rock Band that I just don't see HMX putting out as typical DLC.

So I would be willing to pay the $3 in RBN just to finally get their music in the game because otherwise they wouldn't be there at all.

I loved that you picked "Metropolis Pt. 1" David - I'm in exactly the same boat as you (heard it first, loved it, quite willing to part with the $3 for it). In fact, I've been begging for that one on the Ultimate Setlist board a long time.

My answer is yes. I'm definitely more selective at that price point. But I could probably name 20 songs right now that I'd bite the bullet on.

Edit: just realized I didn't answer the whole question. The quickest way to get me to spend the extra buck is if it's something I really want - your mastodons, your mars voltas, your between the buried and mes - but would also be willing to go there if the chart looked incredible.

(psst, I wish there was an actual poll up top so we could get the numbers.)

Yes I would. It would have to be a song I love.

I wouldnt want to start paying 3 bucks for every song though.
