Rock Band in a university residence...

I'm going away to university next year and will be living in a residence that is a single house with either four or six bedroom. The bedrooms aren't that big, and I'm not sure how Rock Band (guitar, drums, and all) will fit...

Do you think it's a good idea to keep my stuff in my room, to myself, or possibly leave it out in the lounge for anyone to play at anytime? or some similar idea...

I also want to know if Rock Band is a good icebreaker for parties and such. I mean, I do have plenty of DLC... over 600 songs, I think... so, maybe this could help with leaving it out in the main room?

I'm not too sure. Any ideas?

I brought my rockband to college and it was fine. Kept all my DVDs, games, 360, and instruments in the living room of a 4 BR apartment. People where free to play it and watch movies. Had no problem with people taking anything (some people borrowed movies without me knowing and gave them back to me). Its ok just keep your door locked at all times you are not in the apartment/dorm and you should be fine.

Also had some fun times with rockband being played by large groups.
I'm doing the Rock Band 2 Jukebox Project.

Rock Band is a good ice breaker. Get to know your housemates well before you move the game to the main lounge (just in case some of them think it's clutter); if they know that you have it and they come to your room to play, it's up to you to decide whether or not to move it. :]

I had tons of awesome times with Rock Band at college (just graduated in May). Rock Band is surprisingly easy to play in a tiny dorm too; it seems a little cramped at first, but after a few songs, you forget about it.

Though if you're having a huge party, I wouldn't leave Rock Band out. For me, Rock Band was an early in the night kind of thing, we usually moved on to something else after an hour or so (cards, beer pong, etc).

We made a pretty cool drinking game out of Rock Band, too. I'd post the rules, but I'm not sure if that's against the forum rules or not.

[EDIT] Just checked the rules, nothing against drug use! I now bestow on you the rules of DRUNK BAND! DISCLAIMER: DRINK RESPONSIBLY. I'm not promoting getting utterly wasted playing this, like I said, we'd only play for an hour or so.

Anyway, the game's pretty simple. Play any song. Highest scorer and lowest scorer take a shot of liquor (lowest as a punishment, highest drinks to make them worse, basically). If the whole band fails out, everyone does a shot (or other times we did a special drink like a Jagerbomb or something)

I've got a drinking game too. It basically goes like this: I fill a tall glass with a strong cosmopolitan, place it on the mantle next to where I stand and voxtar, and basically pretend I'm in some swing club wearing a blue sparkling vest and singing "Stray Cat Strut"

I would bring it, but I wouldn't leave the instruments out in a public area to use unsupervised. Partying strangers, especially drunk partying strangers don't treat the hardware especially well.

    This.

I can personally attest that leaving Rock Band gear out in the open in a college setting is a bad idea
