Thread: Peer Reviewing?

    Peer Reviewing?

I have been a loyal (obsessed) fan of RB since it came out. Even though I haven't posted much I've been browsing these forums for as long as I can remember for news and DLC updates, etc...

I'm thinking about getting into the playtesting end of it as I'd love to be a part of getting songs into RB.

My question is: What goes into the process? I know how to sign up and everything, but before I spend my money on the creators club and XNA... What goes into playtesting and reviewing a song?

PS: This is probably on the forum somewhere but I figured if I tried a search for play testing or peer reviewing or any of the other key words involved, that I would get a million results in the search.

Any links are apreciated! Thank you.

    Well, here's the short version.

For playtest, you'd play through the song on one or more instruments, all difficulties, to see if the song is authored in an appropriate way and if the surrounding material (metadata, VENUE, mixing, and so on) are all up to par. If you don't agree with how something is handled, this is where you can bring it up for debate.

For peer review, you'd go through every bit of the song on every instrument, to essentially certify "there is nothing illegal or incorrect about this song". You might not agree with how something is handled, but if it's within the rules, it's still good to release.

The community usually suggests that new testers focus on playtesting only for a while, until they're more comfortable with the rules. Playtests are "smaller", both in time and significance, so there's more room for getting comfortable with the workflow and the rules.

If you're interested in learning more about the details of how you actually playtest a song on your Xbox, and the types of things you're looking for when playtesting, check that out here. You don't need XNA to view the documentation but you do need to make an account on the Creators site.
