Yes it does make sense, its shorting May 5th, 2010 instead of your what shorts 5th May 2010 or 2010 May 5th. U.S. way makes way more sense.

And everywhere else would say "(The) 5th of May, 2010". It only makes sense in the US because you say it that way round.

It could be argued that logically, the smallest number first (the day) makes more sense as it is closer to a base number system.

yyyy-mm-dd makes sense for computational purposes at it sorts logically. It also can't be confused when one country does it one way, and others another.

Maybe the best solution here is "5th May 2010" as a string
