If you enjoy this newfangled garage-rock with surf rock elements thing (think Best Coast) then you will enjoy this album. If not, avoid.

The Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck (6.75/10)

Listening to Something to Die For by The Sounds now. I think I might've found the biggest disappointment of 2011 early.

The Sounds - Something to Die For (6/10)

The sound went from obnoxious to okay thankfully. They haven't latched on to any previous potentials they've had with their past work. A couple of decent tracks, but it still was disappointing.

    Pendragon - Passion
    4.5/10

One of the UK's venerable neo-prog bands puts out a follow-up to 2008's excellent album "Pure"... and slips and falls all over itself. The sound seems quite focused on aping a lot of the melodic ideas and guitar riffs from Pure, except without as much coherence and clarity of direction. The most glaring example of where the album falls apart is on "This Green And Pleasant Land", a thirteen-minute track that seems to be a musical equivalent of "you kids get off my lawn," featuring the ramblings of one afraid of what his homeland is becoming, and ultimately serving as an object lesson in a talented group of musicians who are still looking for their glory era. Unfortunately for them (and Van Der Graaf Generator's earlier release this year), the 70s and 80s are long gone, and it's starting to show.
