    9.5/10

This album totally changed my views on indie rock.

    Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion
    9.5/10

Along with Ancestor's In Dreams And Time, an easy frontrunner for Album of the Year so far for me. Moody, atmospheric, dark, with plenty of melodic and textural underpinnings to keep things novel. Biggest complaint? It's a relatively short album at only 48 minutes.

Abney Park - Ęther Shanties (8.75/10)

First album I came across from Abney Park was "really good, fresh experience", the second album was "Yeah, sure... what's going on with other bands?"

For some reason I came back for a third and it might just be enough to re-tap my interests in steampunk culture. Abney Park is basically a mish-mash of genres like industrial rock, folk, electro-swing, cabaret and sea shanty song structure molded into this steampunk monster. Picture a Disney soundtrack gone horribly wrong (in a good sense). It's corny but it's a ridiculously fun album with an often upbeat, adventurous mood. Simple, yet a thrilling, unique experience.

    Black Radio (Robert Glasper, 2012)

This here is a fantastic album filled with jazz-drenched hip-hop and the smoothness of neo-soul. Guests include Eryka Badu, Lupe Fiasco, Musiq Soulchild, Mos Def and Shafiq Husayn. It's honestly one of the best releases of the year with earnest heart and soul, with reminders that quality soul musicians still exist in the digital age. Ending on a unique take on Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit we really see a great experiment from Robert Glasper.

Silversun Pickups- Neck of the Woods 8.8/10

SSPU finally took the step in a different direction they needed to. There is a lot of electronic influence on the record, and the record as a whole is much better for it. My favorite tracks were "Skin Graph", "Make Believe, "Bloody MAry (Nerve Endings), "Mean Spirits", and "Out of Breath".

That rating would probably go up if you talked to me in 3 weeks, as SSPU albums tend to grow on me.

Garbage - "Not Your Kind Of People" (8/10)

Excepting one or two middle-of-the-road ballads, this is the best album Garbage's has put out since their debut.

    Enslaved - Vertebrae
    9/10

Gotta say, going into this album, was expecting something more like Frost.
Getting a "What if Rush were a black metal band" thing was the last thing I expected. But holy hell was it awesome.
Just some really good prog metal with black metal influences.
    Really enjoyed the album.

Primordial - Redemption at the Puritan's Hand
    8/10

Just a damn good celtic/black metal album. Love the singer's voice. Really fits the theme.
Bloodied Yet Unbowed is the highlight.

Not Your Kind of People (Garbage, 2012)

An album that demands your attention and possibly may be Garage's best yet. Not Your Kind of People soars as both a reunuion piece and a post-punk revival selection. So far this is the second or third best release of 2012 that I have listened to. Swirling electronic textures, standard Garbage vocals and thin percussion really adds in with it and the variety isn't jarring and allows the album to keep it's consistence without ever going away from being fresh.

Comus - Out Of The Coma
    4/10
A plodding clunker of an album from the prog folk legends, their first new album in 38 years. Much less texture-driven and possessing a greater emphasis on vocals, even though the male vocalist sounds like the guttural wails of the lead singer of I Mother Earth anymore. When the main attraction to the album is a lost recording from 1972 that is of embarrassingly bad audio quality... not a good sign (that being said, that track is incredibly awesome).

    Jannick Top - Infernal Machina
    8.25/10
The zeuhl bassist's best solo album, recorded live as one hour-long composition. Combining elements of Magma's Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh with the jam-like virtuosity of artists like Umphrey's McGee or Buckethead, the end result is a modern take on zeuhl, but the jam elements detract from the overall cohesiveness of the effort.

    The Antlers - Hospice

Fantastic album. Two and Bear are just absolutely fantastic songs that really get to me.
Of course, the rest of the album is great too, just those two tracks in particular are amazing.
