In terms of new material, it's an easy 8 - they've done a fantastic job of combining their tried-and-true sound with other progressive influences from around Europe. The problem is that there's only two brand new tracks totalling roughly eighteen minutes on this album, the rest being the near entirety of their 1973 album Dietro L'Uragano (their previous album). Basically what we have here is an EP with a free album attached.

Excellent third album from BCC, a rather contrived opening track aside. But most of the rest is inspired stuff.

    R.E.M. - Document (1987)

I've been seeking out those critically-acclaimed albums to listen to and cement my opinion on them. I sought out this one and was positively surprised. The songs are very well written and soulful, and their most electrifying songs really make you feel like get up and dance around. And speaking of the tracks... Well, for some of them I expected the standard R.E.M. quality (which was assuredly delivered), but others, like Finest Worksong, Strange and Lightnin' Hopkins (and of course, It's the End of the World..., which is one of my favorites ever), blew me away. I give it an 8.5/10 because there's a couple of tracks that don't really keep up with the energy of the album (like King of Birds, for example).

Hair of The Dog by Nazareth if you do not have Hair of the Dog you just do not have music. I rarely listen to an album but I do keep HOTD around. Fun stuff to pop it in and ask a youngster who they are listening to. It is like LZ 1, 2, & 3. You just drop them in the changer and drive. You do have to have these four to have rock music.

Nothing's Shocking... was bad. Pretty pretty bad. More than half of the album is completely and utterly boring, with feeble guitar solos that did nothing but notice how mediocre the rest of the song was. I do like the vocalist, but the instruments feel completely lifeless and nonexistant. There's a few moments of life between the bad songs, Ted Just Admit It has amazing drums at the very end of a long long stretch of nothing happening for example. But luckily, Mountain Song comes up... and then the rest of the album becomes pretty good. No song is truly stunning, but the rest of the lot are nice pieces of work. Even Dr. Feelgood was better than this. Not the final hoorah of me buying albums in the sale as I wanted, but whatever. Time to buy singles :3

    Album: BBNG2 by BADBADNOTGOOD

    Genres: Jazz(?), instrumental

Jazz covers of rap songs, with a few originals thrown in. These guys are surprisingly good, and are one of the best new jazz bands I have heard in years. I don't even like that much jazz, but these guys have so much energy and brilliant instrumentation! They aren't even 20 yet. They bring so much new stuff to the genre that it even appeals to non-jazz listeners. I hope these guys get the recognition they deserve.

Best track: Flashing Lights (Kanye West Cover. Sounds incredible.)

Worst track: Earl (OF cover. Don't enjoy OF in any form)

    9/10

Summary: Even if you don't usually like jazz, give this a listen, or at least listen to Flashing Lights.

    Ten by Pearl Jam.

    5/the album title.

Just boring first listen. It could always (read: it will) change.

Just listened to The Silent City by Stagehands.
Fantastic album. Tons of energy, interesting concepts, and every song has a nice logical flow to the next that makes it a lot of fun to listen to.

There's a few samey songs and songs that flat out don't feel as exciting as the others, but there's so much quality stuff here, that it's difficult to not recommend.

    Enslaved - RIITIIR
    8.75/10

It's no Axioma Ethica Odini, but it's still damn good.

Neurosis - Honor Found In Decay
    7.75/10

Somewhat underwhelmed. Some good ideas to be found, but unfortunately not frequent enough to make it more than a reasonably above-average sludge/post-metal outing.

    Glass Hammer - Perilous
    9/10

Possibly their best album to date, even exceeding Lex Rex and the bizarre concept album Chronometree. Their recent Yes-meets-Kansas formula is in full force - straight-up epic symphonic prog, an hour-plus song cycle that places particularly strong emphasis on dynamic counterpoint and tonal shifts (moving back and forth between male and female vocals, guitar- and Hammond-driven instrumental passages, and various intensities and timbres). Overall a considerably darker album than most of their recent material, and they're better for it.

Acid Mothers Temple and the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - IAO Chant From The Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out
    7/10

Basically a 40-minute acid trip of a song. A bit too much riffage, but the patient mind will notice strange shifts and variations throughout even seemingly repetitive passages thanks largely to the use of analog synths. A good candidate for an album that could potentially get you high by sound alone.
