Muse were always willing to sell their songs. The popular opinion was that Activision had formed an exclusivity deal with the band, preventing their songs from being released in RB.

Now we know that isn't the case, but it doesn't really change anything. There's obviously some other reason we haven't seen Muse DLC.

    - Licensing costs too high?
    - Harmonix were waiting for the new instruments?
    - Rock Band: Muse?
    - Harmonix don't care?

Those all make sense, with number 4 looking like the correct one.
May 20th, 2012: 4 long years since HMX released "Hysteria" by Muse. The wait for more Muse DLC has to end at some point, right?

I would agree with 1 and 4 with some modifications:

Generally, Harmonix has been slower on releasing new songs from bands that were prominently featured in previous Guitar Hero titles.

    GOOD NEWS:

Hysteria still imported and still works as DLC. Considering 2/5 tracks from that week didn't, that's a pretty good sign.

    GOOD NEWS:

If you think of her guitar icons featured in World Tour, you'll see:
Hayley Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, Billy Corgan, Sting, Ted Nugent, and Travis Barker.

    Of these:

Hayley Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, and Sting were featured in songs on-disc in Rock Band 3.

Travis Barker was represented many times by Harmonix, most recently in January of this year.

Leaving only Billy Corgan, who seems to have had a few more songs released with Guitar Hero. (And Ted Nugent, but no one cares about him).

That was WT, and what you'll notice is that a lot of those artists (like Hayley Williams) are only JUST NOW starting to open up to Harmonix again.

If you think about it, this makes sense... say an exclusivity deal only lasts for 6 months. This would still mean a YEAR before we saw it in Rock Band again, since it would still take 6 months for Harmonix to author a track once they even had access to it.

Now, look at who was featured in Guitar Hero 5:

Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana, Shirley Manson, Kurt Cobain, and Matthew Bellamy.

Have we seen any Santana recently? Garbage? Nothing from any of those bands since Guitar Hero 5 was released. The exception I think being Nirvana, but that might really be an "exception" especially since Kurt is dead and Dave Grohl loves Harmonix long time.

Considering it was 2008 to 2010 before we saw some bands from WT, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not until 2011 that we see bands from GH5.

Although no characters were represented, it seems like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden have clearly signed on to GH for GH6.

So, my suspicion is that we're right now in that awkward stage where the exclusivity clauses with Activision for Santana, Garbage, and Muse is probably up or wearing out quickly, but even with that being the case, that would mean Harmonix is only now getting access to those songs to begin authoring work on them (so another 6+ months).

In other words, I am far from giving up hope, but I have no interest in holding my breath that long.

It's more likely that Harmonix don't want to tackle a "featured" GH band with high licensing costs, because there's a considerable risk they'll lose a lot of money.

On the other hand, we seem to be in a "keyboard catchup" phase at the moment. I'd say Muse DLC is far more likely for the next few months, at least.

Why do Muse songs keep getting used in movie trailers, but RB still only has 1 song?

Well, since I'm bored, I have a question for all posters.

Which Muse songs would you rather have the live version than the studio version?

I would take Stockholm Syndrome (live) and New Born (live).

Also, I'll tier them, just because i feel like it.

    Stockholm Syndrome
    Band:6
    Drums:6
    Guitar:6
    Keyboard:2
    Bass:6
    Vocals:6

    New Born

    Band: 6
    Drums:3
    Guitar:5
    Keyboard:3
    [/Vocals:6
    Bass:6

    Edit: changing wrong tiers.

BUt not changing the 6s in SS, cause its that hard.

Heh fans of bands always overestimate how hard their songs would be tiered I think. Way too many 6s in there, some of which should not even be close to 6 like keys in New Born which are not playing for a good amount of the song, and not that hard when they are especially given a RB style setup. Realistically, none of the tiers should be 6s with the possible exception of Bass on New Born.

Possible 6s on keys would be Space Dementia or Take A Bow (haha), Assassin on drums, and Hysteria and New Born on bass and maybe Unnatural Selection on vocals.

Now on topic, RB3 is out... where's the Muse?
