Basically, I'm not offended by swearing, I just find it unnecessary and annoying, when it's used to such an extent.

Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld, two of the most popular comedians ever, have been quoted before as saying that they rarely, if ever, curse in their acts, because it adds nothing to the humour, but some cheap laughs from shock value, and I think that can be applied to music as well. Take Eminem, for example. Personally, I think, for rap, he's half decent. His songs often have some sort of meaningful message, and they're catchy.as all get out. But in many of his songs, he's saying f*** every 5 seconds. Does it add anything meaningful to the song? No, nothing but shock value.

i can understand seeing excessive swearing as a sign of possible lyrics weakness or needless repetition, but surely you agree it's silly to want something censored due to it's lack of quality in anyone's eyes?

Honestly, I don't really care if they get censored or not, I just think it's a nice option to have for people who like the song but don't like the language.

But whatever, most of the music I'm into anyways tends to not have a ton of explicit lyrics anyways. You guys know I'm not much for death metal or modern rap.

When will people realize that hating on genres they have little knowledge of for being "unintelligent" and "beneath them" isn't cool?

Not what I was saying at all. I was saying that since I don't listen to either of those genres much, which are probably the 2 most explicit genres out there, it's not that much of a problem for me.

When you equate profanity with unintelligence, and you constantly badmouth those genres and never say which artists specifically you've heard, you tell me what you're saying.

I didn't know that saying I don't like them is considered badmouthing...

A lot of people use f*ck as a "placeholder" word, when they need it to keep the rhythm of a song. That's where my "laziness" accusation came up... it can be a sign of laziness, although not always.

John Wayne actually has a very famous quote... I don't remember it exactly, but it was something like "curse words are a way for a weak mind to exert itself", which itself is kinda ironic, since I think he starred in the first movie ever to say a curse word

But about the actual quote, I think it makes a lot of sense in life, but not as much in music, since it's an art form.
