To get some perspective, Lesnar recieved a UFC title shot in his 4th MMA fight, the same number that Randy Couture had before his first shot at the title.
On the flip side, someone like Jon Jones ain't getting anywhere near a title shot soon, despite the fact he's tecnnically undefeated, has a great ametuer background and has more fights under his belt. It's all about time and place and because the light heavyweight division is stacked, he's not getting rushed to the top.
While I agree it’s all timing, such as Lesner coming in when the heavyweight division was lacking, let’s not compare him to Randy.Randy earned his first title by winning the UFC 13 tournament. Less than 6 months later the UFC switched to the ranked format we have today. Since Randy was the last fighter to have a heavyweight title under the old rules, it was only natural (natural, get it?) he get a title shot under the new ones.
Sure, timing plays a role, but bottom line is it's all about money, and Lesnar's buy rates had been insane for UFC.
There's a reason he's making millions and his opponent Shane Carwin is only getting $40,000 for this fight.
Lesnar had a stellar college record, with a list of accolades a mile long. He then hopped up into the UFC, BARELY lost to Frank Mir, and then kicked both Herring and Randy Effing Couture's asses, afterwards he redeemed himself against Mir.
Kimbo Slice fought about ten or eleven random *******s off the street in parking lots in Miami, won against has-beens and jokes, and then got flattened in his very first fight in The Ultimate Fighter.
Are you really acting like the two are comparable?
