not for classification. if something's too broad, it's useless. if it's very specific, that's good. that's why there's so many metal genres.

Having a genre that only describes a single band makes that genre useless to describe anything.

Avant-garde. It might as well be a synonym for experimental. Unfortunately, genre freaks insist on slightly modifying the actual definitions of words to make them mean something more specific.

They're "real", but they sure don't tell you much about what you're listening to. Alternative and AC have come to be synonymous with radio rock, psychedelic has pushed its roots too far into modern music to be defined as its own thing anymore, experimental could mean anything to anyone, I've heard everything from Pink Floyd to Modest Mouse described as space rock, and I don't care if it's a real genre, Intelligent Dance Music is a f$%#ing dumb name.

Having a scene kid friend in a band, I can safely assure you guys that Crabcore is like Indie music, it's a movement not a genre.

IDM is more commonly referred to as ambient iirc

I think IDM was a tag thrown on because people hate when Aphex Twin or Squarepusher gets put into the same category as Tiesto or Basshunter
