Are harder songs more fun for you?

When playing Rock Band, I notice that the songs I have the most fun playing my guitar on are normally the songs that make you move your fingers a lot, without being a heavy-overkill of notes. So I guess I like hard songs that aren't TOO hard, but have a nice challenge to them. What do you like in a song chart?

If there's any types of note-charts I can not stand, it's the ones that make you hammer the same note for the entire song. I notice that more in Guitar Hero than Rock Band, though.
What do you mean "Is that Bibarel in my icon?" No it's not! Shut up! :P

A song needs to keep me busy the entire song long. Without that being tiresome.

On basic 5 button, the harder songs (devil tier) was my choice. On pro, it really depends on how hard they are, but I must admit that more complicated the songs are, the more I wanna learn them to be able to play them.

I don't tend to do well on them, but I like the challenge. Over all, I like songs that are tier 4-5 best.

There is such a thing as too much activity in a guitar chart (my main instrument, but this applies equally to every other instrument), but also such a thing as too little. Most of the songs I've rated at five lighters are tier 4-5; not the hardest of the hard, which often tends to become obnoxious or plain stupid, but also not the easiest. I've been playing this game for over four years; I need a certain level of challenge for it to be fun, and that's usually not found on the lower tiers. There are exceptions - one of my five-lighter songs is "The Thrill Is Gone" -, but they're rare.

For the most part, yes. However, there are hard songs that aren't fun (Pulse of the Maggots comes to mind), as well as easier songs that are still fun as heck (people, please give Hautewerk a try. I know it's obscure "hipster" music, but it's surprisingly fun.

A song is more fun for me if it is not too repetitive on my main instrument (guitar) and if it does not have too many gaps between when I play. It can fulfill both of those qualities without being technically difficult. Sometimes, greater challenge equates to more fun for me, but there are plenty of songs I *can* complete that are just not fun for me because of their difficulty.

Not really. I always select songs to play based on how much I love the song, not the complexity of the note chart.
I would rather play a song I love that has a "boring" note chart, than a song I only tolerate with a complex note chart.

I get little to no pleasure playing drums to Anthrax or Queens of the Stone Age, but I love love love playing drums to The White Stripes or Ramones.

wo things make a song fun for me: Lyrics and "sound". I don't care how hard it is if I'm having fun!

I've always been a lyrics freak! If a song has lyrics I'm going to want to at least understand them. If I don't like what the song is saying, I will not like the song even if the tune is nice. The funnest songs for me are the ones with interesting meanings behind them, especially if they have been confirmed by the artist as true!

Sound is also important. If it's squeaky and predictable I'm not interested. If I can guess the next line or the tune to the chorus and I have not heard the song before I'm not coming back! I generally avoid Emo (even if it calls itself something else), Country and 00's or later pop. Some of the older pop is OK, but I'd rather do something less predictable. I also am not into bubblegum or anything trying too hard to sound edgy. It's a funny little balance but I know what I like!

    Examples of "Fun" songs:

Bat Country: It's a Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas reference. Fun book, movie and, of course, song. The interesting movement structure and unusual pacing are very fun to keep on top of and the mix of staccato and legato sections are a great vocal workout without being too insane.

One Armed Scissor: This song is full of references to the "Alien" series as well as other scifi films. Geektastic! It's madly difficult but managing to get such strange sounds out of myself while still sounding decent is an enjoyable challenge. It's a bit on the squeaky side, but the creative reference and music use makes me like it anyway.

Total Eclipse of the Heart: There's a musical called "Dance of the Vampires" and Total Eclipse of the Heart was taken from a scrapped English version. This song is the female protagonist having a meltdown while trying to decide if she wants to stop being human to join the man she loves. It's a little predicable at first glance, but actually singing it shows a lot of subtleties that are neat to learn and master. I wish I had others to sing with- this would be very fun in harmony due to all the subtleties.

I don't like it to be so impossible that I am screaming at the TV/smashing my instruments/breaking down in tears. But I want more than one note a minute. I usually have the most fun when the song is about third or fourth tier.
So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, good night.
