Deadline New York is reporting that Kevin Bacon is negotiating to play the villain role in X-Men: First Class. They don't say who the villain may be.
If Bacon joins the cast, he would be joining James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee) and the rumored Lucas Till (Havoc).

Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) will start shooting soon for a June 3, 2011 release.


Lucas Till has joined the cast of X-Men: First Class, reportedly as the mutant brother of Cyclops, Alexander "Havok" Summers. Word of the casting comes from Entertainment Weekly, but the article also points out that this news may be a bit of misdirection on the part of Fox, who want to keep some of the roles a surprise.

Havok would be a logical choice for a story featuring a younger Scott Summers. He first appeared fairly early on in the X-Men mythos, resentful of Scott's boy scout attitude. Able to control plasma blasts, Havok went on to star in his own spinoff title, X-Factor.

We have confirmed that Nicholas Hoult will play Beast and Caleb Landry Jones will play Banshee in X-Men: First Class, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn. The Banshee casting was first reported by Latino Review.

They join James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Alice Eve, who are set to play Charles Xavier, Erik Lensher and Emma Frost, respectively.

X-Men: First Class, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Twentieth Century Fox is in negotiations with Michael Fassbender for the role of Erik Lensherr, who becomes Magneto.
Michael Fassbender is in the running for two different comic book adapations, playing the villain in each, Showbiz411 reports.

The Inglorious Basterds actor is allegedly up for the part of Magneto in X-Men: First Class and the unknown villain of Marc Webb's 3D Spider-Man reboot. According to the article, Fassbender can't fit both films into his schedule and will have to pick one or the other.

If Fassbender were to play Magneto, he would be taking on a younger version of the role played by Ian McKellen in three "X-Men" films and acting opposite the recently-cast James McAvoy in the part of Charles Xavier.
