We did an interview with King Tony to announce what he's bringing to Rock Band Network :
HMB: Hello everyone, we're talking with the frontman for the newest addition to the Heavy Metal Beats family of artists! From the band I AM KING TONY, it's the man himself... King Tony!
KT: Hey there.
HMB: For those that aren't familiar, tell us a little about the band.
KT: Well, right now I'm not sure you could call us a "band" to be honest. Right now you've got yours truly King Tony doing the vocals, writing the lyrics, all of that stuff. Basically being the face of the whole thing. Behind the scenes though is the architect, Sub Rose. He's been the end-all be-all on the music side. It's really an honor to work with someone of his caliber. He made one hell of a track for me to work with.
HMB: How long have you been working together?
KT: Well, the first song "Stereo Stereo" probably took us a month or so to finally finish up. We definitely took our time with it though. That was one thing I stressed was I did not want a rush job. I wanted quality however long it took.
HMB: So you're the singer. How long have you been doing that?
KT: I've been singing for as long as I can remember. In the car, in the shower, that sort of thing. However it was back in 2003 when I first picked up Karaoke Revolution that I tried, you know, actually being good at it. From there me and my friends went out to some karaoke nights and I've been doing that ever since. When Rock Band introduced vocals, that really took me to the next level. It's weird, you hear from everyone how these games don't translate into real-life skills but I think can attest that I definitely improved my vocals with this game.
HMB: What are your influences? What bands are you into?
KT: Honestly I could go on forever. I can get specific for this song though. When we first started to brainstorm for what became "Stereo Stereo" I had been listening to a lot of All Time Low and Story Of The Year. I think we tried to make something catchy but with a bit of an edge to it. When it came time to begin work on the vocals I was listening to a lot of Alkaline Trio and A Day To Remember. I think you'll see the ADTR influences shine through in the vocals. As far as what bands I'm into, I'm big into female vocalists. Paramore, New Years Day, Hey Monday, that sort of thing. Sum 41, Alexisonfire, and The Cab have gotten a lot of play recently as well.
KT: You'll see I mix it up a lot in what I listen to. I'd like to think it will have a huge effect on my music. What if one day we're ready to make a new song and I've been listening to Sum 41 and someone like Rush? Will we get some metal-influenced pop-punk with prog undertones? Now THAT would be interesting.
HMB: I'd say so! Which songs will you be bringing to Rock Band?
KT: Well right now there's just "Stereo Stereo" but I plan to work on a 5-song EP. Really I'd like to put the whole thing up on Rock Band. That would be so awesome. Also there is a track from my cousin's band A Theandric Divide that I may be looking to bring to the game.
HMB: An EP eh? Any ideas for other songs that might appear on it?
KT: Well, I've just been kicking around a few possibilities. I'd like to do an acoustic song. Going back to what I said about female vocalists, I'd love to have a girl come in and do some guest vocals on a song. Some people have asked that I do a more "hardcore" type of song, so that's out there. I do want to make a track or two that will go well with the new keyboard and harmony features. "Stereo Stereo" would be great with harmonies, eh? Anyways, I guess we'll see. Mostly it will depend on what I'm listening to at the time.
HMB: For your song, which instrument do you think will be the hardest to play in the game?
KT: Drums, definitely. Everything else should be pretty moderate. Not too hard to where it's not fun anymore but not too easy so it's boring, you know? We were definitely taking Rock Band into consideration while working on this song, so I hope it translates really well.
HMB: Will you be able to play your own song on expert, or do you think you'll have to ratchet down to easy?
KT: Well, not to brag or anything but I've had my share of number ones on the leaderboards. I think I'll be just fine. Like I said though, whoever's playing drums with me might be in for a rough road! Speaking of that, I'd like to give a shout out to Nick and Mel! YouSleepO!
KT: Nevermind about that, haha.
HMB: Haha, very well! What are your future plans?
KT: To keep living it up, you know? Have the best time I can have. I've heard from a few people that have been saying that they'd like to maybe take I Am King Tony from the studio to doing some shows. That's something I'll be looking to do after we have a decent amount of songs in the arsenal.
HMB: Sounds good. Well I think we're about done here, anything you'd like to say before we go?
KT: I just want to say that I'm honored to be working with Heavy Metal Beats. You guys have some amazing artists lined up. To be working with the same people handling bands like Protest The Hero it's just awesome. Also again I want to say how awesome it was to work with Sub Rose. Check him out on MySpace! Shout outs to all of my friends. You know who you are! Finally, to the Rock Band community. Thanks for the support! I hope everyone enjoys playing the songs!
That's awesome Noble and King Tony! I'm excited to play it!
