REM seems like they'd be the quintessential college rock band alongside Superchunk and Archers of Loaf.

Which is why Dysfunction is the only Staind album that is remotely worth listening to, beyond hearing two or three songs (at which point, with their post-grunge albums, you've effectively heard the entire album).

From my understanding college rock was a very loose "radio format" kinda of deal, but yeah I don't hear it too much in use.

Just curious, have you ever listened to their first album, Tormented, by any chance? It's rare, but I just listened to it the other day for the first time and it's similar to Dysfunction except it's much more raw and definitely is their heaviest alt-metal output.

And speaking of which, Staind's new album sounds like it'll be in the same realm as Tormented, except with those post-grunge and radio-friendly choruses that Staind has adopted over the years.

It's been a while since I've heard Tormented, but you're right. I still think I prefer Dysfunction to it, but it definitely is a heavier album, and far more so than anything since.

Rappers sampling "When The Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin never gets old.
Heck, any rap song with a Led Zeppelin sample is win.
