    I used Hardcore Punk as a gateway, but my love of Marco Minnemann sort of helped me get into it whem he joined Necrophagist. Ultimately "Crystal Mountain" by Death sealed the deal for me.

    I actually think Death was the first metal band with screaming/growling vocals that I listened to, but I had been listening to hardcore for some time before that.

    I was never truly bothered by growling or screaming but rather the instrumentation associated with it. That was eventually sucked up though.
