And to think of all the mediocre hard rock/metal acts that can't light a candle to Sevendust talent-wise are the ones that get popular and everyone gets drawn to. They've had commercial success, sure, but they should have had so much more and deserve it as much as any band out there.
I do think Sevendust is better than your average cookie cutter 2000's hard rock band, but I am pretty indifferent to them overall.

Of the bands of that era and general style, still more partial to Cold and Mudvayne, but Sevendust was pretty solid.

agreed, it's all about the labels the bands are signed to, hell, some of the older labels were once indie, making tons of bands from all time part of the indie movement

I tried very hard to get into Indie Rock and even got a few recommendations from the regulars here, but I just could not get into any of it. Not my thing I guess.
What do you consider Indie and what have you heard?

Consider all of what "indie" encompasses, calling it boring just seems to be overreaching and generalizing beyond belief. Yeah everything from garage rock to folk music to ethereal pop music and so forth is just so easily to write off.

A lot of the stuff on this list mostly plus the rec's some of you guys gave me awhile back. I mean some of it's not bad, but most of it I find to be a bit boring. I probably missed some good stuff so if you want to throw some more rec's my way, I'll definitely give it a listen.

Even still, "indie" tends to gravitate back toward a certain set of sounds, regardless of what label the band is on. Also, "indie" seems to only apply to certain labels outside of the Big Four, not others (I don't think you'd hear a band signed to The End, Laser's Edge, or InsideOut referred to as "indie")... the "indie" scene is more an art movement than it is a genre, true, but there's still a pretty specific subset of music that could ever be classified as "indie".

UO: Rex Brown is a pretty damn good bassist even though I loathe most of the albums he plays on.

The Burning World is a good, though far from the best, Swans album.

I agree with this, though I don't really think there's such a thing as a "bad" Swans album.
