Both Muse and Coldplay exceeded whatever Radiohead did, and Radiohead are the "whiny" band if anything.

Going back to Coldplay... I do agree that Mylo Xyloto was a little weak and "Paradise" is not particularly a good song. The introduction with the string layers is the only aspect that have any valuable merit, from there, it just wipes everything off the table with a fell swoop with a bunch of hollow-molded euphoria and a rusted U2 counterweight.
I've first listened to OK Computer about 5 years ago and even to this day there is nothing on that album about that evoked a sense of emotion or sway into me. At least I credit In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel for doing some extent of building up a growth overtime but even then I still think it's a pretty average album.
Kid A... listened to it twice and forgot about that album within days, and never looked back.

Kid A, OKC and The Bends are records I keep going back to; but such is not a unpopular opinion. As for Coldplay, I find them inoffensive and pleasant and that causes enough positiveness that I can ignore whatever mediocrity they may have to others.

For me, Coldplay has some good songs, but not much in terms of whole albums. So while they aren't exactly "good band" material in my eyes, they've got some decent enough stuff in their repertoire.

Parachutes and X&Y were good, but that's it for full Coldplay albums i can sit through
and muse blows
Muse is the textbook definition of a band with talent, but without discipline. I get the feeling their songwriting sessions go something like somebody starting by saying "I just had this really great idea..." and the rest of the band going "yeah, let's do that!", without actually stopping to think "wait, is that really a great idea?".
