Metallica's 1983 release actually ties Overkill's release as the first thrash album. Unless you want to bring Venom into the equation. Even going back farther Leather Charm's EP and compilations for Hit the Lights proves Metallica was in the scene before it exploded. I know it's sad but true.

Hence why I picked out Metallica out as an exception, I do believe.

3 of the members of the Big 4 of Grunge aren't even Grunge.
Yeah. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden specifically didn't have much in common with grunge outside of select songs and demos. Alice in Chains can SORT of be argued, but; yeah Nirvana was the only one that really fit the bill and some might even try to say that's hard to say.

I don't have a particularly strict definition of grunge, so I would definitely consider Bleach grunge, and probably In Utero too, though I could see why some would just call that an Alternative album. Nevermind I can see the opposition, but hey.

Alice in Chains I've always considered grunge, but I can see how they skirt the line a bit.

Check out this cob nobbler from the Tom Tom Club trying to talk about grunge. It's a harsh realm when lamestains like this interrupt us swingin' on the flippity-flop.

I'll second this, except I was pretty underwhelmed by Liturgy's second album.

EDIT: woops sorry about the double post guys

I honestly don't get Atmospheric Black Metal.

Do you get post-metal? If you get one and not the other, then I can understand the confusion. If you don't get either, then possibly it's just not a form of music that you're particularly attuned to.

This probably isn't too unpopular of an opinion, but black metal (in all its varieties) is far and away my favorite form of metal.

I am partly accustomed to the thicker side of post-rock (kind of the kind that's just wee notches away from being called post-metal), it's just that atmospheric and metal together doesn't really compute with me.

Actually, thinking back now, I've always wanted to hear some A Forest of Stars material considering I've heard a couple of tracks I kinda liked. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong direction.
