I'd akin them to Harry Potter and Fantasy. At this point, Harry Potter is really the public face for the genre, even though it can just barely be qualified as belonging to it, and is quite shallow and, in a way, misleading about better examples of the genre.

The Big Four are the Big Four for the sake of convenience.

Honestly, I sometimes get in the mood for Ten and give it a full listen, but there's far better emotionally-driven albums.

Well yeah, I think that's a "duh" sticker if I ever saw one.

Would you consider Nevermind just to be straight-up Alt Rock, Gow?

Nevermind has grungey noise rock-esque songs (Breed, Territorial Pissings) and it has more tamer things that aren't very muddy or emotive. So yeah, iunno; even some of the singles have some grit to them, but I definitely wouldn't call it a pure grunge record or anything. As for alt rock labeling? I guess if I'm feeling rather loose and vague, yeah.

I call it grunge out of laziness. If I'm talking about grunge in real life, I'm very loose with the definition. In my experience, no casual music listener wants someone to tell them that their favorite grunge bands aren't grunge XD

Tough nuts for them then. Because I know more and will flaunt it most of the time, I can't say I'm popular for it. But I'd rather be loud and blunt than a enabler who sugarcoats everything; or something. I don't know. I'm tired, okay?

The songs between Once and Release are terrible, the rest are pure musical gold.

I'd put this mindset to Pearl Jam as a band, but then again I'm not a fan grunge at all unless you count Dino Jr.
