Naw, Dino Jr. definitely not Grunge...I think....

Groovy jams with psychedelic freakouts, though? Awesome.

Why would you throw in Dinosaur Jr? and I seriously doubt you've explored much of it at all.

I don't think Creed and Bush can really be grouped like that. Sixteen Stone came out in '93 and I consider them more grunge than Soundgarden. Creed, on the other hand... I group them more with Puddle of Mudd and Staind, they really are post-grunge, not an influence to it. IMO, of course.

Yeah, Creed was first wave and Bush can easily be argued for it as well (including early Powderfinger and Silverchair, too) as they have hardly any grunge elements at all; just like Local H they really didn't have a strong muddy sound or enough punk influence to really be called a grunge act (unless you don't know what the genre is and use grunge to describe any flannel-toting alt rockers from the 90s, which is both naive and dumb) and were labeled as such because it was easy to. Bush and Pearl Jam's influence and sound can be likened to what post-grunge would become later on.

Not a genre by any means, but whatever happened to the "college rock" term? Really fizzled out in the past 10-15 years.

Yeah, I haven't heard anyone talk about "college rock" unless it's referring to bands from the '80s, generally.

Pearl Jam are much jammier than most bands labelled 'alternative'. If anyone has satellite radio, switch the dial over to the Pearl Jam station; 99% chance the band is in the midst of playing a totally unnecessary jam. Also, speaking of Staind, their first album is cut more from the TOOL "alt metal" vein than any kind of post-grunge. After that, though...

"This isn't alternative rock! This is college rock!"

It was normally used to describe bands that sorta toed the line between modern rock and alt-rock, so 80's stuff like REM and The Smiths along with 90's stuff like Pearl Jam and Weezer got lumped in.
