    I find proto-punk to be closely synonymous with garage rock. Sort've like proto-metal and heavy psych.

    Well obviously back then they were The Stooges, but they've decided to be Iggy and The Stooges now, even their site backs this up, so I'm fine with whatever way people want to refer to them as long as they don't believe them to be an early 20th century comedy troupe.
