I agree. He concidered himself a failure. I think he wrote some of the MB songs durring that period, because I remember reading that he blackened his windows and barely ate while writting them.

After Pinkerton was vindicated, they made a comeback put never tried to replicate it. After fans constantly told him that "your new album sucks", he decided to make the red album, Raditude, and Hurley as "FU PINKERTON FANS" albums.

The Record Company wanted a hit. I wasn't suggesting that song was personal. Most of the other songs are.

I didn't think The Red Album was bad (about half of it was), though I hated Raditude and what I've heard from Hurley.

I really don't care for most of Green Day's early albums (hate Dookie, like some of the ones that come after), like American Idiot to a moderate degree, and actually really like 21st Century Breakdown. So, in my mind, they've improved.
There's a handful of people around here that seem to like 21CB for some reason... what that is, I really don't know.

Likewise, not sure what people see in Dookie. It's just... totally unremarkable.

I wouldn't fully recommend any Green Day album, really.

i don't know how people can listen to that crap when they could be listening to nothing instead

I file Green Day in with bands like Blink-182... if I'm in a certain mood, they're listenable, and even catchy. If I'm not in that mood, the music makes me want to kill something. This is especially true with both bands early albums.

90's pop-punk in general is some of the most loathesome music ever made imo, along with ska, arena rock, and what they play at raves now

I'm not a huge fan of Arena Rock either, though it can be fun.
