Some of the ghost vocals I'm very partial to, such as the 1337 speak in Planet Smasher and the silent phrases at the end of The Greys. Some of them I'd like to keep but aren't worth fighting much over, like the "boner" in Planet Smasher.

Though, if players don't realize they're playing the "PENIS!!" game with PS, then the problem's in the fadeout at the end of the song, not the ghost vocals.

That actually leads to another very major personal concern of mine - ghost vocals in the more serious tracks. ZTO is silly and over-the-top and also quite short so I can see why you might do whatever you can to make it more interesting (which isn't to say I like it). However, messing with songs like The Greys and especially Solar Winds just isn't cool, I want to play the songs I know and love. Even in the voiceovers that are at the end of some of the songs the player's vocals aren't adding anything, it looks like they're only there to keep them from having nothing to do but that's not really required, and it definitely seems like Devin wrote those lines as a monologue, not intending the player to be saying stuff as well.

Not trying to have a go here (I'll save that for Creators ), but just voicing my own personal viewpoint on these songs.

Well I had to look that up, dunno if that's just an American thing.

The ghost vocals are terrible and against the heart of what Rock Band's about. It would be better to just get rid of them.
Caps lock and excessive exclamation points are not your friends. Just throwing that out there.

    Really?

    Really?

Aren't you being just a TEENCY bit overly serious here?
8/9/11 (Def Leppard) will be marked as the best day in RB history for me. HMX, major thanks for all this amazing DLC you put out!

This is a forum filled with people who accused HMX of hating the PS3 because the PS3 version of RB2 didn't display the message of the day.

The spirit of Rock Band, repeated by Harmonix time after time, was to feel that real concert experience. Cutting out the gimmicks and getting to feel what it's really like to be in a band. This just feels like it's taking you farther away from the stage and back to a controller. This is fine if you feel bored with the Rock Band formula, but for people like me who still have friends over every week to play, it just feels cheap.

Before someone accuses me of it, it's not because I'm not familiar with the material. I was introduced to Ziltoid three years ago by a dedicated Devin Townsend fan, and even he thinks ghost vocals are stupid. (The fan, I mean.)

It's Rock Band Network, not an officially charted HMX song. Also, no one's forcing you to buy anything. That being said, you shouldn't stray too far from the formula, but small sacrifices could and should be allowed. Just get this over with, we don't want to start no virtual RBN Cold War here.

Any idea if ZTO will be available for the PS3? Also, the crazier Ziltoid is, the better.

Yeah, man, I can't get over how serious those tracks are with the puppet who likes coffee and is planning to destroy the Earth. Just because those particular tracks have a more laid back and "easier" feel to them doesn't mean it's not still a part of the overall ridiculous picture. Solar Winds begins with the introduction of a character named "Captain Spectacular" and ends with Ziltoid being "exposed as a nerd." Yeah, that's some serious stuff there.

If Devin is all for messing with it, who the heck are you to say it's not something that should be done?

Ugh. You may enjoy the same old, same old and never want anything to change, but some of us are looking for something at least a tad creative after years and years of the same thing.

The "spirit of Rock Band wanting to create a true live concert experience" went out the f'ing window when the released the Spongebob tracks. Having your viewpoint is a relic of the Rock Band 1 era.

I would not be shocked if we didn't get any further Dev content because of this picky, GRRR IT HAS TO BE BY THE BOOK bull****. Thankfully he seems to not be holding a grudge or anything (according to his Twitter, anyway) but I know I'd be reluctant to put out Addicted (or whatever) later if this is how it went with my first attempt.

I'm done talking about the freaking Ziltoid album. So sick of the delays, this is the only thing I've really been looking forward to all year. We should have had several, if not most of these tracks by now. Said it before but it's worth repeating - shame on any people intentionally holding this up because it's trying something different.

From what I understand, these tracks have narration added to them just for RBN?

I love that there's an artist who is willing to devote his time and resources just for the sake of enhancing the spirit of the game. It's amazing. To create a silly atmosphere and premise just for these songs. I could never see a mainstream artist like The White Stripes doing that for their fans. Never.
