Maybe the old games could be patched to play one more audio stem than the engine was intended to handle, but it would be too much effort with really nothing to gain.

First of all, no one is forcing you to buy anything that you don't want to but if you liked Rockband enough to spend hundreds of dollars on DLC it seems like a no-brainer to spend $60 on a game that will only add to the RB experience.
Another thing is that I recall as far back as over a year ago long before RB3 was confirmed to be in the works, a thread came up asking for HMX to create RB3. Many people were in favor of a new RB but there were a few folks like yourself who absolutely did not want a new RB. It seems that since they were happy with RB2 and didn't want to spend any money to purchase a new game they were totally against anyone else being able to enjoy a new RB i.e. RB3. So it was perfectly fine if we people who wanted an RB3 were the ones who were screwed.
It's hard to imagine that anyone who likes Rockband enough to spend the amount of money that you have spent would be so stubborn that they would give a game franchise up completely just so that you can show them that they better not mess with you.
It's time for your medication, Mr. Brown.
Rock Band 1 & 2 had almost 3 years of DLC support and 2000 songs to play. compare that to your average game, or even the popular ones like Halo or Resistance. if they get anywhere near the years of support that the legacy rock band games got, they don't have 1/16th of the content.
Either buy Rock Band 3, or settle with 2000+ songs worth of content. either way you aren't exactly getting the short end of the stick
Expert/Hard Guitar (80/20)
Expert/Hard Bass (90/10)
Hard/Medium drums (60/40)
Medium/easy vocals (50/50)
Or maybe instead of buying all that DLC you save up a few weeks worth of would-be DLC money and buy Rock Band 3? RB2 has been around a couple of years, I don't think people who have Guitar Hero would be sad about having DLC for almost two years. I support HMX, they aren't fast-swapping anybody. It's not like they released a game 5 months after and completely took away the DLC. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
