No explanation, really, just a thread that would be helpful for musicians/budding musicians around here.

I was thinking of asking y'all if there would be any interest in doing a weekly and/or monthly song pool. We could either have interchangeable rules/themes or we could leave it totally free-form.

I'm not into doing it as a competition or anything, but these sorts of things tend to be fun and helpful, assuming it's kept active.

Hmm explain that idea man, that sounds really awesome. Make original songs for the fun of it based off rules?

We can come up with our own ideas/variation, but the general idea is to just get people to commit to posting a recording that fits into set parameters within a set time-frame.

We can agree that they have to be original compositions, a specific genre, a certain length, or whatever. I personally think it's best without rules, but whatever.

As for the weekly/monthly mention, I've always thought it would be cool to post a weekly recording as well as a monthly recording, obviously putting much more time into the latter with the weekly contributions being more or less experiments or sketches of a not necessarily finished work.

Ah alright, I would love that then, since I'm always recording stuff(mostly demos but occasionally get a full song out).

Awesome, if anyone else is interested then definitely say so.

The key is to keep things comfortable and fun, so even if you're new to recording, songwriting, or even just playing an instrument you're 100% welcome.
Even if your recordings give Ke$ha a run for her money you'll be getting experience under your belt.

When will we start doing it?

My schedule's certainly open for the time being, so it would depend on everyone else.
If we do a monthly thing it would be best to start either on the last or first day of the month.

Of course the holidays are coming up, but people can opt out for a month/week if they've got too much going on.
Just please don't get too excited at the prospect of getting everyone to do Xmas songs.

I think putting the original creations posting at a month and leaving it up to people do what they want would be good. Anyone else interested?

Hopefully the after-school/work crew picks up on this. I'm going to a make an appearance at a party in a few hours so fill this thread with ideas and I'll sort it out when I return tonight.

Also, while it's in my brain, do many of you guys need help getting your feet wet with midi, recording, or editing music?
I know a few of you have talked about it in the past, but I also figure there may be some new folks interested with all this keyboard/pro mode stuff going on in RB.
