Want a band simulator? Start a real band. Rock Band is a music rhythm game with 'band' as the general concept. It's not a simulator anymore than Guitar Hero ever was.
I think that the talk of "band simulator" started with my suggestion that a deep band RPG is one direction in which they could take the franchise--this is, after all, a suggestion thread. I'm certainly not sure that that's a concept which will sell, but I am sure that they need to find something different and interesting to distinguish any new version of this game from the plethora of similar music rhythm games which proceeded it; there's no reason to bring more of the same thing with little esoteric non-advertise-able modifications which people keep suggesting and a new setlist to market. Only a subset of RB3 players would buy that and RB3 itself hasn't sold well (and IMO would have sold significant less well had they not required buying it to play new DLC--they can't get away with that again).

Also note that a vast majority, if not all, of my suggestions don't require making songs incompatible with RB3.

The only regular suggestion I have that I'm not so sure wouldn't render new songs incompatible with RB3 is improving the lip-sync. I think the old harmony songs could be dealt with the same way GH5 handled adding Band Moments, and new songs with improved lip-sync could have the new style lip-sync in a new part of the file. Did the addition of HOPO chords make them unplayable in RB1?

    Still...thank you for the music

Any suggestion that would render new songs incompatible with RB3 would not be successful at this time.

Wait a second. First off, starting a real band couldn't be a "band simulator" because it's the real thing. Second, when you play Rock Band you are always playing a simulated instrument (yes, even the Squire. Because even when you are REALLY playing a REAL guitar in the game and REALLY hitting the notes, it's still the game that REALLY makes the sounds). When you play you always have a simulated character (even when you can't see them). That character is always in a simulated band. How is that not a band simulator? Perhaps a better question is: how is Rock Band NOT a band simulator?
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research: he who [edit] nuns will later join the church.

It'd be so much more interesting as a Band Stimulator....

I didn't say it was a good one. RB2 was a better band simulator. But RB3 can claim to be a band simulator due to the inclusion of a tour. A music simulator has no need for a tour, while a band simulator does.
