Yeah, I think the solo bonus being added into the star cutoff needs to at least be toned down, not necessarily removed altogether. It's totally obnoxious with how large it is right now, and needs to be cut down to at least half, if not lower, to compensate for the large solos for when a single miss is causing you to lose out on 40,000+ points.

I agree with the trill lanes too, there's something off about them. I have a lot of trouble playing in-time with them, and almost always have to play too fast to get them to register, meaning I end up off-beat, and then can't hit transitions. If I can play the same exact things in other songs that don't have the lanes charted, I don't see why the lanes make it so much harder.

I definitely agree that there is something off about the trill lanes as well and some sort of adjustment would be helpful. Perhaps, though, I am confused as to their purpose? At first I thought they were to make either a drum/cymbal roll or a hopo section more natural, or at least more manageable. So far, for me at least, it seems they accomplish the opposite. I rarely make it through either the trills or drum/cymbal rolls without dropping combo and I am absolutely certain I'm playing faster than the roll/trill requires. I also know that I would have cleared the section just fine had it not been charted as a trill/roll.
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research: he who [edit] nuns will later join the church.

I think the roll-type lanes should ignore the notes that show. Hard to enjoy the roll when you have to think about certain hits.

I haven't touched an insturment since you visited me (sad but oh well. Looking to RB4 in the way distant future to maybe remedy that)... but the few times I did before that point I was never, ever able to do any of the trills with success (the few I came across on bass). Couldn't tell what it wanted from me. Played fast and attempted to be on beat, played slower, wailed with no reason and same result... so yeah, they're a bit off.

I don't understand what they mean and I haven't found any documentation anywhere of how to play them so including trills in charts seem be some kind of mean-spirited gesture on the part of the chart authors (just because HMX added the notation to the engine doesn't mean that any of them is forced to use it). What did we do to them ?

Thankfully, charted trills aren't very common (for guitar and bass) and I can try to be careful to preview charts online and avoid buying DLC which includes them.

They're supposed to be reserved for what I'm terming "sloppy" playing. It's not necessarily sloppy, but things that don't play to a consistent timing, or things that speed up/slow down. For that, they're nice, but they seem to be kind of broken, as in you have to play at the absolute charted speed or faster, and if you dip any amount below, you miss a note. It would be totally awesome if they improved the front-end detection on them, as that's where it seems things are lacking, it feels as if the front of the hitbox is just missing.

Another one of the few players who could get trills to work here. Like the other two said, I go as fast as possible.

As for the solo bonuses counting towards star cutoffs, I'd go with rolling 100% into "Awesome Solo" and eliminating the extra bonus for a perfect solo. That way, "Awesome Solo" would no longer really mean "Nice Solo Choke! By The Way, Say Goodbye To Your Gold Stars". My reasoning behind this is the same reason that singers don't get Perfects.

As for tambourine bonuses, I'd lower the Awesome cutoff to 95% from 100%.

Can you explain a little more? All I remember is that in Lego, singers did get Perfects (Awesomes actually breaking combo).

There was no such thing as Weak or Messy, only Good or Okay.

In your case, not only are you trying to match terminologies between solos and singing, but you're also trying to make the game encourage you instead of diss you for choking by a pixel.
