Play the song with the two mics up to your mouth during those phrases. Here's the kicker: As soon as the yellow part is finished for the phrase, take one of the mics away from your mouth. When I played it this way I managed to get a Double Awesome at least three times in a row.
    Thanks. It works

We're using a PS3 (Old-style casing, upgraded HDD) and still having a problem with the vocals. While we can use the Select button workaround to deploy overdrive, we still can't trigger the final shout for the Big Rock Finishes.

I'm also beginning to notice frequent audio skipping in the song selection menu. I have a little over 800 songs so far (1,2,3, GD, AC/DC pack, plus a lot of DLC).

Finally, I'm starting to get XMB crashes just after starting songs. While it doesn't seem limited to any specific song, it does seem to happen only with the outdoor concert venue.

It kinda throws off the look when one of those generic street/punk looking session musicians barges in and replaces one of the player's custom stand-ins.

    This, exactly.
A peek into my RB dreamlist:

Simon and Garfunkel: "A Hazy Shade of Winter"
    Icehouse: "Icehouse"
    The Spinners: "Spaceballs"

Shouldn't there be a more practical solution than deleting every single character, even the ones you created that don't fit in with the band, such as having players who join in take whatever character was the stand-in before, or even the players choosing a character before starting the song?

I've got an idea I've repeated a few times before: Change the stand-in system to RB2's (but with male/female vocals and keys spots added in), and offer an option for a "static band lineup". When enabled, character select will be disabled for the host and guest profiles and you use the character that's in your instrument's spot. Only when another signed-in profile drops in is character select enabled, and only for that character.

And as for my idea of a five-member band, I previously suggested that the front row be the same as it always was and that the keyboardist get placed in the back row, moving the drummer to the side a little. In small venues, that won't work because there won't be enough room. Instead, the left spot will be enlarged a little, putting both the bassist and the keyboardist in that spot, and the bass animations will have extra versions to prevent bumping into the keyboardist.
We've ended on a sour note:

I popped in Green Day Rock Band last night (still haven’t finished singing all the songs in the game) and was reminded how much attention to detail they paid the avatars. I know they’re modeling them after the real band for motion and such (good job), but it wasn’t just that. There were so many things that’d work in Rock Band.

First thing I noticed was the textures of the clothing. Things actually looked like what they should. Denim looked like denim, leather was leather (soft shine, no vinyl glare of RB3), satin was satin… The hair was simplified, yet much more moveable and detailed than the RB3 hair helmets. For instance, Billy Joe’s hair doesn’t always move around due to the style, but it didn’t look plastic. The detail added to the color/effect, not take away.

More important than that were the bodies. Yeah they’re modeled after real humans… but that’s just it. Their bodies are human! All three aren’t shaped the same, they weren’t stretched out versions of each other. The builds were distinct and ‘real’. I wish RB would take advantage of what they built in GDRB (I know it wouldn’t be as detailed due to the processing power and the custom factor) but they could get similar shapes. From that they could elaborate to thinner/heavier and such (just keep the RB style faces and all) But after watching GDRB, RB3 should be ashamed of itself for its avatar performances and presentation. Lazy mo-cap stand out like a sore thumb. I compare GDRB to something that’ d suite RB more than the Beatles style (not the animation, but the overall lighting/textures aren’t what RB3 seems to be aiming for. GDRB fits it better).

GDRB has set routines per song (which I wouldn’t enjoy in RB in general) but the moves are smooth, their arms move properly, they actually look like they’re playing the instruments, the weight is proper, the lighting is great the texture of the skin/clothing is superb. The drummer isn’t mechanical at all and has great range of entertaining things he does when he’s got some drumming down time, the expressions are great. They range from concentration to the quirky smile of knowing the camera is on him. RB can learn some stuff from it for future design.

    ------

Oh yeah, off the design topic...the vocals in GDRB are far superior to RB3 all around. The Harmonies are more reliable, the vocal track is easier to see, minus the pie color (much more obvious when you’re nailing it), the mic sensitivity was a Godsend, and you can turn down the mics and not hear yourself blaring through the speakers. All that really needs to come back.

One thing I don't get is why they didn't make Billie Joe blonde for the Oakland Theater. He was, of course, dyed blonde for that performance, and they even used a shot of him like that for the freaking cover.

I never really followed their performance styles in life (I just enjoy the music) but it did cross my mind last night as to why there was no blonde version.
