Response to Questions about Viacom Selling Harmonix

I really don't think that would happen. As someone mentioned earlier, creating an IP from scratch to sell your console is one thing, but they wouldn't take a platform like RB at just cut off thousands of existing consumers. XBOX will probably have certain timed exclusives, but that's about it... and that happens already anyway.

In addition, the music-game genre has really died down so much that people aren't going to go out and buy an X-Box just because of a music-game exclusivity. It's not like FPS's which are still all the rage. I would just be more worried about timed exclusives, or full exclusives of some things.

Heck, Alex and Eran should just buy HMX back. They're an established name in the industry, with plenty of connections built over the past several years. It could work.

That's actually what I figured was going to happen. That Harmonix had enough money to buy themselves out from under Viacom.

Either way, the sky isn't falling, so I don't think we need to worry.

You know that argument can go both ways right? With the music genre growing smaller, it may not be cost-effective to spent the extra resources supporting multiple versions of the same game and instead just move all work to supply the version that has the largest fanbase.

As I said, its always a possibility, but its not something I am particularly afraid of happening.

I just hope any new owners realize Harmonix is just a brand name and its the people at the company that make it what it is.

NOW .. as a PS3 owner ... well .. I would live in fear day to day that at any moment the RB foundation would be pulled out from under me at any moment.

Ditto. Having just dropped ~$250 for a (not even complete) set of periphs and RB3 disc for PS3, I'd be really concerned about platform preference should MS be the new owner.

Also, to add to your conspiracy theory- @RockBand is only giving out Bon Jovi DLC codes for 360 for three days running so far. COINCIDENCE?!
