Beat Guitar Hero 3 today.
Wow. Just wow.
I had A LOT of fun with Guitar Hero 3. The setlist is really solid and the setlist progression reminds me of a time before Guitar Hero 5 didn't mess everything up. And what made Guitar Hero 3 great was the fact that even the most miserable of songs were a complete BLAST to play. I had fun with almost every song in the game and the experience was just fantastic.
I only have 2 issues with the game: mainly the final boss battle and song unlocks.
I /HATE/ the final boss battle. The thing is, I really enjoyed the guitar battles. My first music game was Guitar Hero: On Tour, and I always found them a blast to play with friends. And the powerups weren't /THAT/ bad. But the thing is that they're not bad when the song is appropriate. The Devil Went Down To Georgia is nowhere near fair in terms of the difficulty curve that was set up in the game. People have complained that GH3 is too difficult, but that's not the case. The case is that the difficulty curve works perfectly until the absolute end and puts an end to your happy career.
And lastly, I don't have a problem with song unlocks in non band titles, because I just like the sense of achievement that comes with unlocking things. But having songs only unlockable in co-op? That's just mean. I really want to play Helicopter, dammit.
So for now:
Guitar Hero 4 > Guitar Hero 3 > Guitar Hero 6 > Band Hero > Guitar Hero Van Halen > Guitar Hero 5
