C-A-P-C-O-M. Yeah, they're a popular target, but really, it's been one bad decision after another with them. Even their best title in years, the DMC HD Collection, has a few holes in it.

Capcom have always had their duds, even in their 'golden age' in the eighties and nineties, and have never been anywhere near my list of favorite developers. That being said, they do seem to go out of their way to piss off and milk their fanbase these days. I refused to pick up Ultimate MvC3 for that reason.
I've progressed significantly in Silent Hill 3! I'm exploring the church right now, and I can see that they were trying to make it kind of like the Labyrinth from SH2, but there's no way it can possibly try to be as iconic and terrifying of the Labyrinth. I found 5 tarot cards, and I swear that I explored all of the rooms already, but I still can't seem to find the other 4. Which is annoying, because I have like 3 healing items left, barely any ammo, and there's Insane Cancers and Scrapers everywhere ;_;
But it really is neat how many references to the original game are scattered everywhere in the church. It's a lot of fun exploring it.

Oh and I'm definitely buying Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Yeah, it's horrendously despicable what they did with it, but on the other hand they FINALLY included Phoenix Wright in the series. A character which I've been DYING to play as in a fighting game. So on one hand Phoenix Wright and on the other evil, yet understandable business practices. Phoenix Wright is the obvious winner.

this is the entire reason I bought it... I feel stupid for buying the collector's edition of MvC3 when it first came out...
anyways I have been playing a lot of Civilization 5 recently... I am having a blast... I can't wait until June 16 for the Gods & Kings expansion to come out

So I beat Silent Hill 3 for the first time just now.
Wow. I'm suddenly reminded on why I'm such a huge Silent Hill fan in the first place. The game oozes horror and fear throughout the game, with incredible amounts of symbolism and a great cast of characters to make the game interesting. The game feels a lot shorter than the first two did, but it's most likely the fact that I restarted the game and thus breezed through the first half of it. Before I get to my thoughts on the game, I wish to make clear from the start that the game is incredible. Anyway...
Silent Hill 3 has only one issue, however that issue divides threefold to further complaints. The problem is the story. The story isn't bad, but it's not really as earthshattering as 2's story. In fact, it's on par with the first one, since it deals with pretty much the same plot. The twist in SH3 comes in the middle of the game rather than the end of it, which is fine but nothing in the endgame comes as a HOLY **** moment besides a rather unsettling scene with the main villain at the end. Silent Hill 1 had no HUGE twist regarding the main story, however I found the mystery behind Lisa to be quiet satisfying as a shocking moment. And let's not bring in SH2's head explosion of a twist.
The main reason behind the story's problem is the fact that it's a direct sequel to the original. No, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a great thing. It's a lot of fun seeing how the original and this game are connected, especially at the very end. But it limits the story, because there's not much to expect outside of killing Claudia/the inevitable God. Silent Hill 2's story completely ignored the original, which allowed it to be unrestrained from its plot and tell an amazing story of a new cast of characters.
And the final issue I have with the story is the main character's intentions of going into Silent Hill. In the original Silent Hill, Harry entered the town because his adopted daughter kept mentioning it in her sleep and he wanted to see what was there. At the beginning of the game, his daughter disappears and he spends the game trying to find her. In Silent Hill 2, James goes to Silent Hill because he received a letter from his dead wife, and he explores the town to find the mystery behind the letter. Although he is certain of her death, he enters the town with hope that he may see her again. In Silent Hill 3, Heather's father get murdered by the antagonist and she goes to Silent Hill in order to murder the antagonist in revenge. These three characters had motive for both going to Silent Hill and staying there when they saw their first monsters instead of GTFOing like a normal human being would. Although Heather has the most understanding and sympathetic reason to go to Silent Hill, it's harder to relate to her as she's driven primarily by anger rather than Harry's desperation or James' curiosity and longing.
Although these problems in Silent Hill 3 are there, I actually have no alternative or suggestion of improvement, as the plot is still incredibly interesting and fun and doesn't hamper the game as much as I'm suggesting.
Silent Hill 3 is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, it's not as good as SH2 (for obvious reasons). It is, however, better than the first one. SH3 is incredibly scary, unlike SH1 which aside from one jump moment (whereas Silent Hill 3's jump momentS are incredibly unforgettable) is not scary at all. All three games are a lot of fun and I definitely recommend the original 3 to ANYBODY who loves good games.
