Oh lawd, I need some calibration tips quick!

So, all of a sudden, I can't get this game to calibrate. Actually, I can't get ANY of the Rock Band games to calibrate correctly. I've been passionately playing guitar for over 5 years, so I know a thing or two about rhythm and I just can't.. freaking... CALIBRATE!

It seems, no matter how much I f*** with either the audio or video calibration, the notes keep crossing the window either slightly too late or slightly too soon in relation to the audio. So, in theory, I should be screwing with the..... video calibration? This is where I'm mostly lost.

Any tips? Remember, this exact same problem is happening for not just Rock Band 3. What I'm doing to calibrate is, obviously, not working. And no, the automatic calibration and "manual" calibration just make it even worse (which is stupid to say the least).
8/9/11 (Def Leppard) will be marked as the best day in RB history for me. HMX, major thanks for all this amazing DLC you put out!

Remember that "+" moves the video or audio "forward" in time, and "-" pushes it back.

If you're trying to play along to the music and you have to hit the notes earlier than you're hearing them, increase (+) your audio lag to make the music play earlier. If you need to hit the notes after you hear them, then decrease (-) the lag to make the music play later.

Same with video; if you have to hit the note before it crosses the scoring line, then increase (+) the video lag. If you can't score it until after it crosses the line, then decrease (-) the video lag.

EDIT: Off-topic, but did you manage to be aboard the JoCo Cruise Crazy cruise this past week in the Caribbean? If so, you probably saw me on board!

I'll try calibrating again now with these tips in mind. Thanks a lot!

And lol, there was actually a whole entire cruise trip dedicated to JoCo in the Caribbean? Jesus, why do I live in Texas and fear the outside world?!?!?!

Mute it and calibrate the video first, ignoring the audio delay. Intentionally play early and late and make sure the hit window is centered around the gem.

Once you get the video locked in, play by ear, try not to look at where the notes hit the hitbar. Either record your screen or have a friend tell you if the notes are exploding above or below the hitbar. If the notes are exploding too early, you need to push the audio back, so subtract 20 from your audio setting and try again. If they're exploding below the hitbar, then you need to bring the audio forward, so add 20 and try again. Once you're right on top of the hitbar, you can fine tune by adding and subtracting 5 or 10.

Jonathan Coulton, Paul & Storm, Molly Lewis, Mike Phirman, John Hodgman, John Roderick (The Long Winters), Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (RiffTrax), Stephen "Stepto the Banhammer" Toulouse. On board with ~400 crazy sea monkeys on a giant cruise liner in the Caribbean for a week.

So yes, there was an awesome cruise, and you just missed it.
