HMX didn't introduce a new main-series game in 2009 either (though they did launch TBRB and LRB, one in September and one in November). Activision has flooded the market with GH games. I wonder what they'll do for a seventh? Their silly rock fantasy saga campaign for GH6 was a pathetic idea.

Personally I think that HMX should be working on creating some new IP (like Dance Central) while trying to figure out an encore for RB3, if there is one. It's just very hard for me to imagine a RB4 that I'd buy next year. If all it did was improve band-sim/tour (as so many are hoping for) and offer a new setlist, I know that I'd pass. I'd probably eventually buy it, just to get the songs in the setlist, but not until it hit the bottom of the bargain barrel.

I play for varying reasons... sometimes it's for fun, sometimes it's for score/full counting, sometimes it's to learn an instrument (ProKeys, ProGuitar)

I've said it before, but this is the only game that remains fresh to me after all this time. I've spent less money I would on other games on DLC and still love it. The fact it's several games in one - singing, guitar/bass, drums, keys, proguitar ... many different things in one package. Nice job HMX!

I get a kick out of having the option of using my own characters for the songs, but at the same time, I've been getting all the Rock Band, and Guitar Hero, games since both series' started because of the songs in them. I either do know the songs themselves and I want to see how they chart them in the game or I know the band and not the song they chose for the game, but I'm curious to try it and see if I like it. And I almost always end up liking at least some of the songs in the games that they choose that I wouldn't have known without picking up the game, so that's what I like about them. I haven't really gotten to play online much, so the leaderboard part I haven't really experienced yet, just beating my own scores that I earn at home, so I won't mind that once I get that going. So to answer after a long explanation: I'm in it for the songs, then creation, then leaderboard I guess

I play for fun and love of music.

However I've been using the same band and band line up since Rock Band 1.

So three years with the same characters I feel like I 'know' the little weirdos in the band even though I don't play for the band aspect or score aspect of it.

I'm pretty sure our lead singer is gay, but I have no idea why. The drummer is the bastard daughter of Tommy Lee and Joan Jett.

Again I have no idea where that notion came from, (probably her looks and someone commented on it), and it just stuck.

It's fun, same reason I play GH, though not as often.

The thing that gives RB the main edge of GH is that nearly everything is exportable and whatnot, so I have everything at once. GH did have some exporting... but very minimal.

But yeah... it's fun, I like the music, I often discover new music, and it's just kind of relaxing. There's something about it that makes it more enjoyable than FPS or other types of games (though I like many of those too).
Sonata Arctica is in Rock Band. This is officially the greatest thing ever.

This is usually how it starts with me. It's like those moments in a comedy when I guy starts speaking lyrics to himself, and then the whole room is booming out Journey, Queen, or the like. To me, this all started back in Rock Band one when I was messing around with my cousin, giving funny descriptions to all my characters as he asked who the hell they were. The next game I could see some of them together, and they stayed around. Who was originally my bassist was now my singer, my drummer my bassist, and so on.

Then I started making a fantastic world they lived in. They're an Alternative Rock semi-super group that became huge early on and through the 90's. Their musical careers stem back as early as 1984 and all come together in 89-1990.

After creating this supreme beast I started thinking of problems that would arise. The drummer was suspected of being an alcoholic, but was too introverted for anyone to tell. The bassist, one of my favorites, is presumed to be gay because of his appearance and attitude... And interest in fashion. He never had many problems outside of being lazy, and often getting lost at parties. The singer developed severe drug addictions, which got in the way of personal relationships. He progressively isolated himself more and more until his long time love left him, putting him into rehab after an attempted suicide by drug overdose. My guy, the guitarist was the one trying to keep everyone together. He kept things steady in his life, never really having time when he had to keep track of the singer and manage the band.

Eventually things got better, they got back on track and had a good run of touring before their time to shine started waning. The band ended in 2000 after the singer was killed in a hit and run. The drummer went about on his own business, sometimes sessioning to make money. The bass player started getting into fashion more, no longer distracted by music. My guy went and became a solo artist, becoming successful in the new era of music that was coming by producing, performing, and recording. His addiction was music, and no one stopped him.

And then it all began again in Rock Band 3...

It's kind of an addicting hobby that can underlie just about anything you do.

The ultimate goal for me currently is 5 starring the setlist and gold starring it later, i haven't even finished the spades thing i just log in and try to improve on some songs while trying to build some instrument skills.

What made me play through GH3 linear mode was unlocking the songs, and in rb you have no such incentive since clothing and the like doesn't really interest me.

Would like touring more if i felt super confortable with most songs and had some friends over all the time i guess.

Funny thats what I like most about RB3. I hated RB2 for the amount or songs you had to unlock, it seemed worse than RB1 for that to me. I've now got RB1 and RB2 imported into RB3 so I can now play all the cool songs I couldn't be bothered to unlock before

I just wanna play the music man!

That song unlocking thing was ridiculous. After an hour or two of playing through the RB2 "world tour" I completely lost interest, but then discovered that I had to play all of the songs in the tour to unlock them in Quickplay; I was really pissed about that. (There's a cheat code that you can enter to get to an "unlock all songs" gameplay modifier, but you have to use it every time you start ther game up and if it's on your QP scores aren't recorded). When I switched from playing on the PS3 to the Xbox to get full access to RBN content I though that I was going to have to do it again but discovered that if you play all of the decade challenges it unlocks all of the songs; takes less than two hours.

I was so happy that there was no such nonsense in TBRB, LRB or RB3.
