I play it because I'm a musician and I can't always break out my guitar or bang around on my drums due to the fact that people need to sleep in my house even if I have insomnia. I love music/rhythm games. I was all over games like GH and GH2, DDR, Bust a Groove, etc. I also like the band/touring element. I like recreating my friends/family in the game. Scoring matters a little just because I like to see where I rank, but not to the point where I need to be top of the leaderboard.

I play it for a new way to interact with the music I love (and some that I didn't even know I loved).

The business case for a RB4 is one of relevancy. If there is nothing in the way of RB for 4 years (or whenever the next consoles come out), then RB will lose it's place in the history of the music genre.

People continue to buy Madden, NHL, CoD all without major improvements to the game engine. There may be tweaks here and there, but ultimately the game play does not change. I don't see RB4 being a major step from RB3. Sometimes it is okay to have small steps, just to keep your name out there.

Remember, not everyone has RB. There are constantly new players showing up to the game. If little Johnny decides he wants to play drums and loves his xbox, his parents will ask around, find out there are music games available and then go looking for one. If they walk into their local gamestop and see nothing but GH games, which do you think they'll buy? HMX needs to stay relevant.

I want to learn to play guitar with the pro-guitar. Don't care about scoring and whatnot.

    Bingo!

Sure I get a kick out of screwing around with the character creator and coming up with stories for my band, and I'm the first to admit I will occassioanly play for scoring, but neither of those reasons is what keeps bringing me back.

It's all about the music man.

Word. It's fun to play the notes and watch your skills improve. Scores, bands, characters, tours... that's all just a sideshow.

I play for a lot of different reasons at different times. When playing solo it's mainly for the fun of the music and touring. When playing with my friend it's to try not to look bad.

Mine isn't really on here so I picked the middle selection, but I play because it's a fun experience and Music is pretty much my life.

I play because I love having fun rocking out, whilst skill-building.

I was never into scoring/completeness initially but that's definitely a secondary consideration now.

I don't see how skill building is only linked to scoreheroing. By the time you finished the World Tour on one difficulty on and instrument, guaranteed you could progress to the next difficulty on another run. I went from medium to expert on drums and guitar just playing World Tour, never touched quickplay in my 2-3 years of playing Rockband once. I did enjoy world tour, tug of war, and score duel. I had about 12 bands over the 2 years I played RB2 and almost exclusively played world tour having fun helping other bands online, creating and outfitting new characters and bands, and skill building the whole time enjoying it so much that it doesn't seem like the dogmatic chore the goals and road challenges are. Pursuing those are about as enjoyable for me as hiring a nun standing in my living room cracking me on the knuckles everytime I miss a note.

It's shame so many play options where removed and everyone is pretty much pigeonholed into one way to approach and play the game, when there were things that appealed to ALL types of gamers before.
