I have to imagine the reason driving this change was the scoring mechanism. People were being excluded (when playing Pro) because they were no longer 'part' of the band. The only thing they did was take up space...

I think that may have been the larger factor too, but there should be a way around that, even with a blank chart. It seems like they could have still sent points data without them seeing you play. Hell, in RB2, if someone lagged so much you couldn't see them play, their points would still get added in at the results screen.

I was never sure why the score could not simply be added up together in the end (exactly like your lagging example, there were times when it would take 10-20 seconds after a song, for the lagging person to 'catch up' ... then the points total would display).

What this solution does is ensure that everyone playing online will be able to see one another's charts (and thus overdrive usage, be able to save, etc...). Of course, it leaves alot to be desired, but I'm sure something was creating the problem that couldn't be fixed simply by a 'quick' patch fix?

And you believe HMX has the skill or the will for something like this? The game has always been about showing you what you have on the system. If you don't have the charts, it can't be displayed. The last thing I think I'd want is another piece of data to stream and possibly de-sync due to lag.

This solution is terrible. On par with the silly 'no vocals' thing in RB2. But in the end, it just seems particularly poetic considering the only real terrible thing about it originally was a blank highway and a lower band score. Now they've fixed something that didn't particularly need it compared to other issues.

I think they should make it an option. It it was enabled, it would hide pro guitar as it could hide tracks that your online band mates don't have. This way at least people could play a song somewhat together if they chose. Making it better than it was (people without the upgrade seeing a blank lane and not having the pro guitarist add to their score) might be out of the question as far as a patch goes.
